Default Putting 2002 LS1 into 1998 Z28 Chassis

Hello All, I have a 02 Z28 that is severely rusted, and will no longer pass inspection due to the lift points rotting through. I bought it from a older gentleman who drove it through every NY winter, and it shows on the floor pans and frame sections. I pretty much bought the car because of the great running LS1, and 6 speed that are in the car as well as the interior is in great shape. I have found a clean 1998 roller car, and was wondering if having my 02 as a donor how complicated would the swap be? I have heard that the pcm's and harness is different between the two, but having the complete 02 to steal parts from would I be all set? Thanks in advance!

Very easy if you have both cars.

The swap is really easy, I put a 2000 motor in my 98 and all I did was take the sensors off the 98 and put them on the other motor because the 98 and 99+ have a couple different sensors (oil pressure and coolant temp)

Hopefully nothing damaging happened. The easiest way to tell is on your next oil change cut open the filter and see if you can see any glitter in it. If you drove it completely dry though, that could be a problem and would require inspection.

I was thinking of using the 02 pcm, and harness in the 98 because I hear that the 98 pcm isn't the best choice if you have an option? I was curious what is required to switch all of that, or if it's even possible

Unless you have a large stroker, big shot of nitrous, 100mm maf, or big boost it's not worth the swap in my opinion. Take it from someone who has done it. It's a pain. If I had to do it over again I would have simply kept the '98 set up.

It requires the new computer, the harness to be re-pinned, and a segment swap to the computer so that your gas gauge works properly or you can run the 99+ tank and sending unit. If you swap the harness to a newer model you will need a different gauge cluster so as the 98 is year specific and will burn up. I'm sure someone has a pinout change to make that work but I haven't seen one.
