It would fix it if it was a plug problem. But you
haven't narrowed it that far down.
Black smoke is unburned hydrocarbons. You can
get that from being too lean or too rich. But too
rich almost never makes you ping. Try not to use
"obviously" when you're fishing. Obviously the fish
is not in the boat yet.
If that Powershot is an oiled type filter, have you
cleaned your MAF recently? Especially if you're
of the "more oil is better" school....
