just wondering if u guys know about or experienced pinging w/ black smoke?

The black smoke is definitely fuel.. Did you just get gas recently?

 

nope. i thought that pinging come from running lean, but obviously its running rich? help me out guys

 

If you have 1 cylinder that's running rich (bad injector, misfire, etc) the o2 will lean out the whole bank, which could cause pinging in the other 3 cylinders on that bank.

 

Lean misfire, scan / log for individual cylinder misfire
counts & history.

 

would installing new spark plugs fix this?? ive got about 45,000 miles on my car and never changed them out. if this wouldnt fix it what else could i do? TIA guys

 

It would fix it if it was a plug problem. But you
haven't narrowed it that far down.

Black smoke is unburned hydrocarbons. You can
get that from being too lean or too rich. But too
rich almost never makes you ping. Try not to use
"obviously" when you're fishing. Obviously the fish
is not in the boat yet.

If that Powershot is an oiled type filter, have you
cleaned your MAF recently? Especially if you're
of the "more oil is better" school....

 

no i havent cleaned my MAF. u think this could be the problem??
