Default Cooling issue...puzzled 01 SS

So I have my 01 Camaro SS CAM only car.

well cam and supporting mods,bolt-ons etc;

so my tuner noticed that the temps were running high when he had the car, now I got the car back, start playing around with it and ultimately decided to replace the fan assembly since it was cheap and the car is 15 years old.

Who can break down for me which side fan should be on under which conditions...

The car is tuned to have the fans kick on at lower temp, so ideally the car should be running 175-185 maybe 190.. I am running like 212 without A/C on and like almost 230 with the AC on.

the car had 1 previous owner, I found a jumper wire tonight going from the far left fan relay (out of the 3) to another part of the harness...

I need to play around with that more but will also replace the 3 relays as a safety precaution.

is it possible that the ASP underdrive pulleys slowed my water pump down and it cant handle the cooling?

The driver side fan is NOT on when the passenger side is ON. even if the temp is high.

Both fans should run at the same time. If you only have one fan running at a time something is going on. Is the car running hot while driving or just sitting ?

This might help you trace some wires... https://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-in...ring-help.html

When you say both going up over 200, do you mean when driving too ?

Do you still have the air dam on the bottom of the radiator support?

I would also start checking the fan wiring with a test light or OHM meter to see why both fans aren't coming on.

Okay so I went to my shop today and did some testing...

-relay 1 command, low fan goes on
-relay 2,3 command high fan goes on
-I checked the low and Hi fan signal wire that run from the PCM to the relay box, they both commanded the fans on as well
-once the car got to the temperature that was supposed to trigger both low and Hi fans, the corresponding low and high fan wires from the PCM had ground (fans are ground triggered)

then car starts heating up and low fan (driver side) did not come on. the car went up to 238, it does not come on with the A/C on or the A/C off. but the signal wire is sending the ground to the relay. The relays are new.

what stumps me is that the fan works when commanded or probed

unless there is a break in a wire between the relay for the low fan and the actual low fan pigtail, and it makes contact and doesn't (fan going on n off)

I would check that section of wire and see if the back of the fan is getting power.

Whenever I probe the lead wire from the pcm and send negative to it the fan powers on which is what puzzles me

In the mean time I would put in a temporary toggle switch so you can command your fans on. Most guys who drag their car find this as a necessary modification between passes.

This is going to sound silly, but remote your radiator and blow it out with a hose and compressed air. Once it is out do the same thing for the ac condensor 15+ years of crud and bent fins really reduces how efficient they are. I had this same problem and this solved it.

Glad to see you got her figured out. Did you look to see if the plastic air dam is still in place on the lower radiator support ?

I think its still there I also have the SSRA ram air.

so that does block airflow to the radiator a tiny bit. but AC on last night 182 degrees
