Default Is a tbss/nnbs intake worth it for my setup?

Would a tbss/nnbs be worth swapping to for my combo? I am trying to see if it is something I should keep my eye out for. I know it flows more than the stock truck intake but I'm not sure how much more or how that will translate to rwhp.. I am also on the fence about whether it is worth it given the cost ($300+). What do you guys think?

Here is my future combo:
2006 5.3 L33
799 heads
tr228r cam
1 3/4 headers
Possibly bigger injectors

Sounds cheaper and is supposedly at least as good as the LS6 intake
pretty much a no brainer

The TBSS intake tested better than the LS6 intake in this article and much better than the standard truck intake. I picked a TBSS intake up for $160 this year with fuel rail and injectors. There are good deals to be found if one spends time looking. The only negative I see for the TBSS is its not a pretty intake.

Based on the article fhe TBSS is with in 5hp & 5 torque for averages between 3000-7000rpm of the 102 FAST LSXR. The TBSS gives up some on the top. See artile for graphs & details. For the cost the TBSS looks very good when compared to other intakes.

TBSS
Peak Power: 562 hp at 7,000 rpm
Peak Torque: 497 lb-ft at 5,000 rpm
Ave HP (3,000–7,000): 444.4 hp
Ave TQ (3,000–7,000): 464.6 lb-ft
TQ at 4,000 RPM: 469.5 lb-ft

LS6
Peak Power: 557 hp at 7,000 rpm
Peak Torque: 483 lb-ft at 5,000 rpm
Ave HP (3,000–7,000): 432.0 hp
Ave TQ (3,000–7,000): 450.9 lb-ft
TQ at 4,000 RPM: 454.3 lb-ft

LSXR 102
Peak Power: 591 hp at 6,900 rpm
Peak Torque: 505 lb-ft at 5,700 rpm
Ave HP (3,000–7,000): 450.0 hp
Ave TQ (3,000–7,000): 468.4 lb-ft
TQ at 4,000 RPM: 466.4 lb-ft

I have recently picked up two of these intakes for less than $200 shipped fully dressed with TB, injectors, rails, etc. They are worth the gains on completely stock applications and the gap looks better as you mod.

I replaced my old truck intake on my 5.3 with the tbss/nbs intake. You can feel the difference. I also know it was better because i had to add fuel to my tune everywhere because of the better airflow of the tbss/nbs intake. I was able to get mine for $80 on ebay with rail and injectors. You just need to keep looking. Rockauto has the manifold for a $135 if you want a new one.

Awesome! I found one for $175 with rails and injectors. What else do I need for the swap?

Unless you guys beat me to it, in the spring I'll have dyno results on a cammed lq4 6.0 going from its current 380 rwhp (fully tuned, old style truck intake, th400) to a tbss intake after a retune.

I will then send the tbss intake out for porting and post results after a retune and dyno pull. You have to retune every time airflow characteristics change to compensate for the extra air with proper fuel to reach your target air/fuel.

Amazingly I haven't found any dyno results online of a gen 3 6.0 with a non-tbss/nnbs truck intake with a cam swap going to a tbss/nnbs truck intake....so I'll do what I have to do.
The dyno I use corrects for humidity and temp so it should keep the results focused on the intake and not on the environment.

I am in the same boat and tossed up between the LS6 and TBSS intake. Thankfully I have both on the shelf to play with.

I plan on running the larger DBW throttle body that comes with the tbss intake. Is there any alternative to the $240 x-link? I am going to need to rework my harness anyway so if it is just some wiring, that is fine.
