Default What starter is everyone running?

I'm in the process of building a 10.5-1 LQ4. What starter do you guys/gals recommend? Is anyone running the factory starter with a higher compression ratio? Thanks

You do realize that there are factory LS engines with more than 10.5:1 compression, right?

Factory starter, almost 200,000 miles. I had a setup going a little over 12:1 for a year or two and its still going strong with the current 10.5:1 setup. The stock or stock equivalent should be just fine

I'm on a stock starter, I was given a high output aftermarket starter but it wouldn't fit with headers which is why I had been given it.

Most of the time cylinder pressure is bleed off with a proper cam for a high compression setup. Even a 9-1 motor can have more cranking pressure than a 12-1 setup

That said, I wanted the baddest starter I could find. Bought a power master unit. Didn't take long for the solenoid to wear out and click click click in the staging lanes. Fixed it twice before buying a stock ac delco. Never had an issue sens

Luckily, summit returned the starter for full credit

My starter just broke. Turns out it has a PLASTIC ring gear in the planetary.
It was an LS1 style starter on a 427 stroker LS3.
I believe it was a cheap knockoff instead of a factory starter.
Has anyone had an AC Delco starter apart to see if it uses plastic components inside?
I can't use an offset reduction starter due to header clearance, but before I buy an AC Delco unit, I'd like to confirm that it's higher quality than what the previous owner installed.

Thanks,
David

Many use 2010-2015 F-body. auto or manual. This use a pigtail to trigger. it's not simple a stud. Try looking it up for a pic.

With that said, I recently seen a thread showing a 07 Silverado is the shortest OEM starter. Should be a ton of these in salvage yards.

Thanks guys,
I ordered a new AC/Delco unit and the longer bolts for the 2010 from Rockauto.
My Megasquirt harness already included the new connector, so I'll just have to splice it back on.
Hopefully this one lasts.

Summit racing starter so I could clock it to clear big headers.

MSD....it has the longer bolts like the truck starter

at least get the truck starter to avoid the infamous broken tab on the block due to unequal bolt lengths

Was the problem that the short tab on the starter would break, and put all the stress on the outer block tab until it breaks as well? That short bolt didn't really make any sense to me from the first time I saw it.

The 2010-up starter I ordered uses 2 long bolts as well.
This is in an RX-7, and I wasn't sure if the truck starter might be larger diameter, which could be a problem with my headers. Length is fine, as long as it clears my C5 Vette mounts.

Thanks for all the input.
