@Kingc8r Thank you for checking back in. I went with the 40085 but haven’t installed them yet. Now I’m wondering how you got them in there, definitely a tight fit. Waiting on Mr. Black to see how the ovals fit before I move forward any further with this.

Xs for dumped duals. Offset inlet. Out the back you would need something similar to a bullet.

I'm anxiously awaiting the results of this project. I would like to upgrade my exhaust system to SE Over-the-Axle True Duals to get the performance increase, but don't want it super loud. Currently, I have long tubes, high flow cats going into stock Firehawk exhaust. The sound is ok for cruising, but the car could use a little more sound!

@JohnR This is what I am working with and as you can see it is a very tight fit. An oval case XR1 has a 12” body, the round as shown has a 15” body. I want to know how far the oval hangs down before making the decision. I would much rather work with a 12” case.

@gjohnsonws6

You’ll need to trim the inlet/outlet pipe as well as the inlet side of the tips.

@Kingc8r

Thank you so much for the pic and advice! Normally I would tackle this on my own however I might sub it out this time around. I did get my system installed today and it is surprisingly quiet. I have not driven it yet so I can’t tell if there’s any drone. Currently have a heads cam L76 at the moment and a 427 is waiting to be installed that will certainly change everything sound wise.

I’m going to have to change my mufflers on mine. I’ve had the kit on 3 years but probably don’t even have 5k miles on them. The passenger side bullet muffler cracked right in the center of it.

System is in, drove it around for a bit with the original mufflers. Wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be and I contemplated leaving them in however I did move forward with the Borla 40085 mufflers. I left this job in the hands of a very talented fabricator and he didn’t disappoint.

He switched things up a little on the drivers side pipe with a bend and pie cut. The passenger side rear hanger was also placed on the muffler to make install easier. It is quieter at idle, has a good tone and no drone cruising. Will get loud if you smash the pedal which is perfect.

@Ls7colorado He bought the same mufflers I bought. I posted some vids above.

@gjohnsonws6 came out nice, glad it worked out. I think depending on engine and cam setup will decide how loud the system sounds. I loved how it sounded at idle and wot. Living where I live it was way too and would make the car a cop magnet.

A simple solution here would be to just delete the cats. There will be no rasping with an ORY and the Firehawk dual/dual system - it's good, clean sound, and you will pick up a noticeable volume increase without it being over the top. Those SLP dual/dual systems (stock on Firehawk, optional on SS, and also once sold as aftermarket on SLP's site) were one of the best to be paired with an ORY. They also flow amazingly well - it's doubtful you'd gain much (if anything) in the way of performance going to true duals.

Agreed, I like that setup paired with an electric cutout. I miss my old y-pipe setup sometimes.

Apologize for disappearing fellas. On Jan 28 my perfect health poster child of a wife had a massive stroke at 50 years old. So apparently it can happen to anyone.

Needless to say our world has been turned upside down.

Things are improving every day since and she is making great strides in recovery.

I hope to get back on this project some time in the next 10 days.

Glad to see you guys have gotten some Borlas installed. It will be interesting to see how the oval bodies fit after seeing how tight the round body mufflers are!

gjohnson that TIG welding is a thing of beauty! I just don't have the patience for it.

Has anyone looked at the Valvetronic mufflers in this application ? 8"x8"x5" bodies, I think ? and you get the ability to open/close the valve when you want it loud/freeflow

We finally got her done!

It is absolutely perfect! It is still hotrod loud on the outside but you can actually have a conversation on the inside.

I have really perfected my stainless steel exhaust tubing MIG booger welding! ****'s actually presentable.

Still pictures for now. May take another week or so for video presentation.

The oval bodies fit better than I thought they would!
