Wow!

I knew Dorman got after RockAuto for selling the DLS2 for under the suggested price. I paid $310 for my Dorman LS2 back in 2017 from Rock Auto. RockAuto moved the price to something like $447 the same as AutoZone after Dorman pressured them.

Saw a DLS2 listed for $492 on Google.

I'd definitely think used Fast before paying $700+ for a Dorman

HA that's funny. Good think I got one before they jumped up.

Agreed on a used FAST vs a new Dorman. My initial thought was a FAST 102 was "too much" for my simple combo (plus they were hard to find used and still $800+), so I went Dorman. But after recent research (this thread included) and videos from Rich Holdener on YT, the FAST 102 reigns supreme on comparison video it is used in.

For me to go FAST 102 would simply be a curiosity thing if it gains much more than my "ported" Dorman. And if it did at what additional cost.

Plan is to get the car on the dyno for some pulls Saturday. Anxious to see what happens. This would be the first time getting true back to back results and to see what porting like this does, if anything.

For less than $125 if it splits at 14 pounds of boost its not that big of a loss.

I have an old LS1 intake that should hold 15+ pounds of boost for a similar price. PM me if interested.

Well, just wrapped up on the dyno.

Porting the Dorman LS2 was worth like I showed above was worth 11hp and 6ft lbs. I’m a happy camper

Final numbers 396/344 from 385/338.

When I get home I’ll post the dyno graph. It picked up all across the RPM band. Almost like a “phase shift” upwards of the plot. Confirmed gains reading A/F ratio leaning out at the top end. Ill post the A/F graph too.

Nice seeing the TQ curve be +5 from the start and follow all the way through. HP starts to gain around 4000rpm.

Pulls started in 4th at 2000rpm

Thanks Black Bird. I approached the porting in terms of "what made sense" when it comes to air flow and boundary layers. Having a Mechanical Engineering degree I understood this but some may not which is why people may pay Tony Mamo etc for this work. Not saying that porting is "simple" and a decent amount can go into it, this worked in my favor.

I think the DLS2 has some obvious improvements that can be made. I'd be curious if someone filled the port with JB weld vs doing what I did (grinding down the ceiling) to blend the runner to port. In doing so you would lose cross sectional area overall at the end of the runner, but would be an interesting comparison.

When i make it to the Corvette Forum its usually just to the C3 section. The responses to your thread over there just doubled CF is sort of funny at times about actual tech. However, they do really seem to enjoy focusing on C7 vs C8 etc and how many Angels can fit on the head of pin etc.

Really, if I may suggest posting the information in the LS1tech dyno section and Dorman LS2 intake thread.

CF is interesting for sure.

Oh, good call. I'll do a copy/paste post to that thread.

fantastic!

confirms my suspicions that the DLS2 is a hot rodders intake
