Question 2000 WS6 - Oil leak from balancer?

Anyone else have this happen?

This 2000 ws6 has an ls2 motor and you can see from picture it is leaking from the balancer.. this picture was taken AFTER the balancer was replaced and driven for like 20 miles...

The seal bad or ?

This was replaced by a shop and currently car is there still being looked into

IF the car sits and is just running at idle, appears no leak, only after driving... also car has not been driven past 50mph since gears also were just replaced recently...

It LOOKS like the oil is below the lower edge of the timing cover, in which case I would suspect the cover gasket, or the front of the oil pan gasket. Strictly going by your pic...

That's your front main seal OP. Whoever did the damper should have noticed the seal and called you up to ask if you wanted it replaced also.

Had this same leak after doing a cam swap
I made the mistake of just bolting the timing cover back on
Without dropping the pan and installing the balancer to center
The seal/cover "PRIOR" to tightening the cover bolts.
The pan pushes up on the cover causing the seal to wear out on the
Bottom and then leak past the balancer. Like yours, not at idle but
After driving

Makes sense what you are saying.... they did not drop the pan i know that...

So the correct steps would be then:

1) drop pan
2) realign timing cover to center balancer (probably have to replace the seal again here ?)
3) tighten cover
4) tighten pan

?

Somehow, I missed that the cover had come off. When you put the cover back on, there's an alignment tool - one that I did NOT use the first time, and I never got it to quit leaking.

You can save yourself having to drop the oil pan (trust me, you REALLY don't want to do that if you can avoid it) with the "align-it" tool from sac city vettes. It's like $40, but worth it not to drop the pan. You set the cover in place with the tool, then use the tool to press in the new seal. Bang

If all seals were replaced, I would suspect improper timing cover alignment. The shop should have used an alignment tool for the front cover, they can be very finicky. Like mentioned above, Sac City Covette sells this tool along with other alignment tools if you ever decided to do this. I have 2 sets of their complete alignment tools at my shop, they make these cover installs a breeze.
