Default 42# inj, then drive to tune?

2001 ws6, Ls1, ls6 port/pol head, 590lift cam, LT headers w stock 28# inj. M6 w/ 3.75 wavtrac. Car never had dyno tune, only bench tune.

Scheduled dyno tune w sponsor who, upon my inquiry, thought i could use 36-42# injectors if i want. Stock inj have 92k on them. Looking at another sponsor (racetronics/ws6store) to purchase the 42 injectors. Going w 42# in case I decide to do more like stroking to 383.

my ?s

will the car be drivable for 45 min to the tuner with the larger injectors or should I rent a trailer?

should I care what the car is doing now (rwhp, rwtq) and just have tuner install injectors after the first pull?

Bonus quest: any guesses what the car will do? I'm hoping for more low/midrange power. Tough question w out know all specs on cam....wish I knew too (seller lost cam card only remembered 590 lift). Car feels like 400hp 350tq after 4k rpm. Pulls easily to 6.5k rpm

Most injectors are rated at 3 bar so those 42# are going to be around 49# at 4 bar. I would either change the injectors at the tuners location or trailer it. I would not even start it with the 42# injectors installed without changing the injector data in the calibration first.

Default Dyno tune results. Straight Line Joliet

Couldn't be happier with dyno tune.

loaded car on trailer then changed the injectors. Started car to check for leaks (ran rough but didn't die). Arrived at Straightline in Joliet and greeted by Nick who was ready for me.

he performed an initial tuning to smooth out the new injectors before loading on the dyno. He showed me everything he was doing and explained why he was doing it...he was speaking WAY above my head but lamed it out so I could understand...this is where I felt super confident I had the right guy/place. I was by my cars side the whole time during all the pulls. Nick only took the car up as far up in rpm as I had asked. 396rwhp and 375rwtq. What I'm enjoying most is all the power he unleashed through out the rpm band, it made the car a lot more drivable and fun to drive. Henset the idle so the big cam could be heard...love it. The Car doesn't smell as rich as it did before and definitely has more power through out the rpm band. Basically, the car had too much timing through out most of the rpm range and was too rich as well.

Nick was very knowledgeable and let me hang out. Price was more than fair. Took about 3 hours. Strongly recommend.

NICE! That's how things like this should go! That way you learn the process to see what goes into a good tune. Glad it went well, with good results!

If you don't mind my asking, what did your 3 hours of dyno time cost?

I just got my car tuned at straightline last week, and I 100 percent agree with everything you said, nick is a good guy and a great tuner. He let me change my oil, plugs, and injectors in the shop before getting on the dyno. He walked me through every step of tuning and was very patient with me and my questions. Very fair pricing, no rush, and like you said me and my son were next to the car the whole time, he even gave us both free t shirts. I'll be going back for a touch up on my tune once I get my new stall. I highly recommend them.
