Default Ls1 vs ls2 difference?

Can you tell the difference between an ls1 and a ls2 by looking at them?
the engine is in the car, seller says it is a 408ci now, but the first time we talked he said it was a 383ci.

Not very easily, especially if they are not original. IF it IS original, the LS2 would have drive by wire throttle body, as opposed to one with a pull cable, as LS1's are.
The LS1 is Gen III, where the LS2 is Gen IV. What kind of car is it in?

I'd be really concerned it could be neither if he can't keep up with what he says.

Links below should tell you everything.
-Knock sensors on LS1 in valley cover. On LS2 on side of engine
-Cam sensor on LS1 at rear top of engine behind intake on LS2 in timing cover
-LS2 stamped 6.0 on block
-I think but not sure, I believe the LS2 valley cover has a tube exiting the front like the LS6. I could be wrong, really old braincells being tapped into there.

The LS2 should have 243 head casting and 6.0 stamped on the block.

I wouldn't buy from anyone that didn't know what was in their car. You said he keeps changing his mind. Unless its a ripping deal regardless what motor is in it. Run farest run!!
