I doubt just jamming 12V into the alt somewhere will make the Gauges light happy.
Are you sure you don't need either the warning light connection, or the duty cycle output? Which alt do you have? What's its connector supposed to look like? How many wires are going to it? What vehicle?
Most likely a Mechman alternator adaptor. I would just run it up from the alt to the fuse box or run it through the firewall and use a spade terminal on the fuse panel inside the car. I believe one of these wires is a constant on and the other is a keyed 12v source.
I tried the alt battery terminal for grins and it turned off the check gauges light. Would it hurt anything to wire it permanently to the alt battery terminal?
