Default Exhaust options and opinions

Ok so I have a 99 camaro ss car has vrx4 cam and 243 heads, tsp Lt headers, with tsp y pipe non chatted and magnaflow 3in back. I am looking for new exhaust set up either a 4in I pipe or true duel.

I know this thread has been probably over done but who does not like talking about their exhaust system.

This is the best deal going for a 4". It doesn't come with a muffler but you can easily add one. If you notice in the second pic it has a section of pipe in the rear that can easily be removed and replaced with the muffler of your choice.

What I'd like to do is get a 4" outlet welded on my Y pipe and add a cutout, then reduce back down to my hooker catback.

Use a Flowmaster merge. They are the best. Also, run the 4" back as far as you can before necking it down to 3". It will help.

Looks good! Where did you get it done? Trouble is I don't trust most of the local exhaust shop hacks with my car and I can't weld. Thought of taking the Y off the car and bringing it in with a merge to have then weld it up, but not sure if it would line up correctly if I did that.

Mufflex makes a dual 3 inch Y pipe to flow Flowmaster Y to 4 inch out. They also have the 4 inch adapter that necks down to 3 inch to hook up to the catback.

I had this style Mufflex Y on my 99 TA for 15 years. Very happy with it. At install mine didn't fit perfectly and hand to be tweaked by the installer. Any muffler shop should be able to do that if it's needed. The Y didn't rattle or hit the floor pan etc. I like the Mufflex a hell of a lot better than the Kook's Y pipe that replaced it.

I suggest calling Mufflex to discuss your plan.

I'm pretty happy with my speed engineering 3 inch duals. Can easily change out mufflers if you can find someone to trust with welding

My brother is a welder so it was nice.
I would not have brought my car in if I didn't know a welder.

I would take good measurements and pull the y pipe off and bring that in. Leave it long and you can cut away to length at home.

I would cut the tsp y you have to get a 4 inch cutout an reduce after that to your existing exhaust system. Quite when you want it an loud AF when you don’t. That’s what I did an love it. It’s not a hard job for even a decent exhaust shop. Most shops are proud to show you there work if they are good.

Default ARH headers, catted y, qtp electric cutout, and magnaflow catback

Its quiet and “deep” when the cutout is closed and it’s loud when I open the cutout. I had a SLP straight pipe exhaust with a cam and it was a cop magnet.

I agree... and with a Camaro, to me, it just looks better without tips.

That's the truth. I went with a Y welded and dumped with a Borla XR-1 right now. I think the stock TSP merge is 3.5" so I may have it redone in that. If there was a stainless steel 4" merge available my car would be back at the shop now. Love the way those sound. Properly installed and tucked up duals kick *** but the roads around me are junk so clearance is key.

i went with speed engineering trued duals and their 1 7/8 headers. currently 1 5/8 shitty 2 1/2 muffler shop y with 4” collector to a phab carbavk. hoping to pick up top end on my cammed ls3. but at the same time might just need to spec out a cam for my gears and stall. the speed engineering looks great will post what it does this weekend after install.

The end all be all of exhaust setups if you don't have to pass emissions or have 2 cats:

Y-Pipe, Crossflow Muffler, More bends (CME)... Hard pass from me, but to each their own.
There is simply no substitute for TSP or SE dumped duals. Max Power, Max Flow.

Cut outs just after the collectors = max power and flow. The first thing people do when they buy duals is come on here complaining about clearance issues and how it's too loud and what can they do to make it more quiet.

I don't have that problem with my setup. Best of all worlds.
