Default Crankshaft position sensor help

I got the P0336 code for the crankshaft position sensor the other day. It ran crappy for about 10 mins; sputtering and stalling out, then it cleared up for about 4 or 5 days. Came back again today so I just parked it and will be getting a new sensor. It dont seem to bad to replace but just wanted to see if anyone on here has done it and if it is pretty straight forward.

Unplug, pull bolt out, pull sensor, put in new sensor, screw bolt in, plug wires back in...
You might have to R & R the starter first...

Put in the new sensor and see what happens. The fact you got a sensor code means that is the likely culprit.

Well I tried to get bolt out of the harmonic balancer and wouldn't budge. I sprayed it and going to let it sit tonight and spray again in am and try again tomorrow evening.

WHAT? The harmonic balancer has NOTHING to do with the crank sensor! The crank sensor is on the side of the block behind the starter...

I’m going to go on a limb and assume you don’t have an ARP damper bolt....

Hopefully you didn’t detorque the bolt if you did it would be wise to buy a new bolt instead of retorquing the old bolt since the oem bolts are torque to yield and meant for 1 time use only.

Everything I have looked up about removing the sensor says it is behind that harmonic balancer. That's why I'm trying to get bolt out to take it off to get to crankshaft sensor

Its not. Its on the side of the block about 2" above the starter.

I mentioned in the 2nd post here about possibly removing the starter to R & R the sensor. Not paying attention?? lol
THEN in post #9 I mentioned where the sensor is behind the starter....
I'd LOVE to know where it says it's behind the harmonic balancer.

this is just a couple things I have found about it. I did see where you said something about R&R the starter, so yea im paying attention. Im just trying to ask questions before i go and start tearing things apart. thats what I thought forums were for. i have had multiple mechanics tell me its behind harmonic balancer and other people tell me its by the starter. so im just trying to get things straight. my bad if thats the wrong thing to do.

Which engine do you have? This is an LS V8 engine forum, and we all assume this is the engine in question. The pics above show a 3.8L V6. Is this what you have? You never said which engine you have.
