The quality of the FTP 104 lid is excellent based on my experience with the one on my 99 TA. It fits and seals well. The TA isn't a WS6, but has the WS6 lower airbox and the FTP 104 lid fit fine on my 99TA. The lid has been on the car for over a year and about 3,000 miles. No issues.

BitPilot,

Thank you. If I recall the 104 FTP may have fit issues on some Z28's and SS Camaro's. Running the LPE 100 mm MAF.

I have both and from just a quality viewpoint the blackwing blows the FTP away. FTP is very thin and blackwing is OEM quality. Also the FTP hits my WS6 hood slightly on two different spots. I also had to grind a lot of the rough spots down on the underside of the FTP.

The above picture is a stock lid, a blackwing lid is smooth inside and so is the FTP. The FTP would adapt better to a FAST setup due to the neck being bigger. I would not use the blackwing on a FAST setup, the smaller neck would be a restriction. I have not had any sealing issues with my FTP, just minor clearance issues.

Damnit. I got it from some article on black wing lids and didn't scroll down further. I just scrolled through more of the article and you are right,

This is a blackwing

My apologies

So that I'm aware of the only issue with black wings is the rubber boot. People say it's not replaceable and not made any more and are prone to split with age. I know rubber and plastic go bad with age, but do you know if there's truth to it that you can't get that boot and they aren't made anymore?

And, the FTP transition is still better than the blackwing. That boot isn't a good air flow transition

What that equates to in power I don't know, but supposedly Pat G or someone like that tested them and found a few more ponies with a different lid, and I can see that with the differences in transition. I have seen people talk about the dyno test but can't find the actual dyno thread.

104 made for the 100mm maf, 98 is made for SD and a straight silicone tube to throttle body. Ive had both. Quality was good.

clear 98, smooth neck

104 with a goofy adapter i had to make

I've had my blackwing for about 15 years, no cracks or aging visible on the rubber boot. But I have used silicone grease on it a few times over the years, otherwise it will develop a white coating after awhile. It is worrisome that you can't get a replacement boot, it would be hard to fab up a custom replacement.
The main difference between the blackwing and all the other cheaper lids is the blackwing is made as one piece like OEM, the others (that I've seen) are all two pieces glued together, and don't fit as well.
