Default Intake Manifold cleanup

I bought a LS6 intake and I'm finally ready to use it but, UGH!, the inside is FILTHY! (mostly an oil residue). I can clean up and prep the exterior, but the inside is another story.

Tell me what worked for you as far as cleaning out the interior.

Also, what size TB will fit this manifold. I'm running a cam, headers, 3.70 gear, 4L60e trans.... suggestions?

Thanks...

I had the same issue with one I purchased last year. I tried a couple different "purple" cleaners, let the intake soak for a couple days but did not do much as far as loosening up the crap. It just temporarily stained the top where it was peaking out of the solution. Then I mixed up gojo hand cleaner, dawn dish soap. don't recall if I added kerosene in it or not. Let it sit submerged for a week. I inverted half way through that week in case there were any air bubbles. Then rinsed, blew, rinsed, wiped, blew...I pushed rags through each runner. The final detail was getting the inside corners cleaned out, especially in the throttle body side. It is just difficult to get anything in there.
Finally got it clean where I was comfortable putting it on the engine.

I've seen a lot of people recommend the Totally Awesome stuff from Dollar Tree. It's about the best bang for the buck cleaner out there, but dont use it on intakes if someone gives you the suggestion.

It will bleach parts of the plastic and leave white spots all over it

I’ve used brake parts cleaner with good results on a really gummed up intake before. Prolly took 8-10 cans or so, but I buy the stuff by the case.

+1 for brake parts cleaner, crc brakleen in the red can. Worked like a charm. It took about 6 cans, and I strained the leftovers through an old t shirt and used it for dipping small parts for probably 2 years!!

Easy off oven cleaner is the best thing I've ever seen for cleaning car parts.... that being said, I don't recall using it on plastic so you might want to spray a little on a part that won't be seen first to make sure it doesn't fade it or anything

Lol ignore the residue and run it. No matter what you do it will look like that again after a couple oil changes

My truck intake was a filthy bee. I took a tall kitchen garbage can and filled it up with hot water and dawn soap and let it soak for a couple days. Every so often whisked it around in the can. Rised it off. .. Back in can and used a toilet brush from dollar tree. Whisked it. Hosed off again. Took air nozzle to remove water and let it sit in the sun for the day and installed the following day. Talk about squeaky clean!
