Default shift light help

My shift light reads slow for some reason. It is set for 6500 and the rev limiter is set at 6800. Well in any gear 1st – 4th I am bouncing off of the rev limiter before the light comes on. I have double and triple checked all connections and settings. I have also move the signal source from the PCM tach wire to the #1 coil pack and set the light for 1 cylinder and it still reads slow. The light comes on strong at settings lower than 5500 rpm but the actual engine speed is much higher. I also replaced the light thinking that was the problem. Nothing has seemed to work. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Rapor shift light. It didn't work then I bought a new PCM, then it worked. I parked the car over the winter and now it's slow again. I have also tried a friends Harlan. The lights work in other cars but in mine they read slow.

Nope they look good. I though they were loose at first but they are tight.

I used the 10 white wire originally but since that seems not to want to work I switched to the #1 coil pack wire and set the light to 1 cylinder so it flashes right. In testing, if the light is set at 6000 in my car it comes on right as I'm hitting the limiter so it's about 800 or so rpm behind for some reason. But like I said it reads true in other cars. The only thing I know to do is to try all new power and ground locations. The power is hooked up to the pink TCS wire and the ground is hooked to a ground in the engine bay. Is there a better power and ground location? Thanks.

that power should be ok but id try the fuse box there is an open ign only circuit that you can plug into there

this is the wire u tapped into right? only other thing you can do is verify the pcm tach output with autotap or efi live and see what it shows for rpms

Are you sure the PCM is actually allowing that RPM? Have seen it B-4 , was set at 6600 but does only 6100.....

Well on the dyno it does go to 6800 in 4th but I'm not sure about the other gears. Is it possible that it could be a bad edit flash? I have flashed the computer probably about 8 times during tuning but it’s still doesn't work. Also the limiter is set in the rpm by gear file. Is there somewhere else it should be set?

Yes it works under 6,000. On the way home last night I set it to 6300 to see what would happen and it worked. That was in 3rd gear but the motor was screaming like it was near 6800, but I'm not sure. I tried autotap to see what my RPM's are but when recording they jump in 600 to 800 increments so you can’t tell.

almost sounds like thers a glitch in the computer over 6 grand then . the light works, connections good , car runs fine just the output signal is a lil screwy at high rpm, so im leaning torwards internal in the pcm

That's what I'm thinking. When I had this same problem last year I bought a new PCM and had it re flashed. The shift light worked awesome. Now this year it doesn't work again. How am I smoking the computer? I always unhook the battery when work is done to the car and I unhooked the PCM when I welded but that was a couple of years ago before the new PCM so I’m not sure what the problem is. The car also dynos and runs great. I hooked the shift light read wire to the #1 coil pack thinking that would work because the PCM tach wire has issues but that didn’t work either. One would think that if the plugs are firing right and the coil packs are getting a good signal that would transfer to the shift light, but I guess not.
