I can't fault you for that.

Here's an exhaust clip of the 4" maxflow. If it doesn't drone or rasp as has been stated, it would be a good option. It definitely sounds good at idle and revving it. And it flows 99% of a straight pipe... so it would support 650HP or so in a single 4" combination.

I believe Mufflex can use this muffler when they build the system. They do a lot of custom stuff.

Ive watched every video I can find of single exhaust ls1's I think lol.

Sounds good! I listened to that video at home on some real speakers. Helps alot when you can hear an exhaust on speakers that can go full range!

Damn that's perfect IMO

Listen to how quiet it is in his in car video. I think this helped me find the muffler I've been looking for for so long. I have single 3.5" with long tubes and no cats and everything I've listened to is too loud. This dudes is quiet and has a great tone when he hammers it in the video above outside the car.
Edit: nm they don't have a 3.5" muffler

That is mellow inside.

A good option for a 4" setup no doubt. And no, it doesn't look like they have a 3.5" muffler.

I used 6 50'ft rolls and wrapped my true duals and my headers.

It greatly reduced my cabin noise and even changed the way my exhaust sounded. It weights about 40lbs now, but there is no cabin noise

Another wise idea would be to undercoat the body of the car. You get alot of echo from the street to undercarrage that you will hear coming from under the car

I'll go back to plan a, magnaflow 12909 is 5x11 case and 18" long single 3.5 in and out. From videos it seems like a good option as well.

Really liked the sound of that 3rd gen though.

I can see how the header wrap would help dampen sound for sure, but I personally don't want to wrap mine. Have considered doing it to quieten the header sound though. My exhaust is dead quiet right now except the inherent header sound of the thin tubes. Once I put a real muffler on it though the sound of the exhaust will drown that out so that's the route I plan to take.

Years ago in GMHTP they interviewed Mufflex at a drag event and they said they were coming out with a stainless system. I had called them years later and Denny said it never happened because the cost of stainless piping in 3.5"-4" is just too much compared to aluminized. With that being said I'm sure they can make one of their systems in stainless. I've actually played around with the idea of having them make me the identical system I have now in stainless but it's held up great over the last 13 years, I can't currently justify the price.

I did the x pipe and header back exhaust first, got rid of alot of the drone and echo you hear in cabin, but the collectors sounded like they were amplifying the valve train noise.

it really changed the sound of the exhaust system in the car and behind the car. The exhaust gasses escape the system at a higher velocity and to me make it seem like a high end system, where as before it just sounded like an open header rasp fest

Well, that's mostly because it's a wheezy, low compression engine. Compression is loud. Horsepower is loud. So you can get a lot louder depending on your engine combo.

That car has a LS1 with a 228/230 cam.

And thanks for the info, but I had the basics down a long time ago bud.

Here's a 400 sbc with solid roller cam, AFR heads, and a procharger with a max flo.
Does that make enough of them engine powers?

This dude posted a video of it doing a burnout and it's loud AF, but really tame at idle.

Very hard to gauge noise in a YouTube video. I remember looking at home made jet engine videos, and the only indication you had of how damned loud they are is by the people in the crowd all jumping to plug their ears at the same time.

I fully agree. I will say though in the vids above there were gauges/other noises that can be used for reference. In one vid someone hit the starter with the engine running, that's fairly loud and was way louder than the exhaust, another you can hear the guy put the keys in and rotate the lock cylinder, then he starts driving.. the keys were pretty loud and the exhaust was quite a bit quieter, and the last vid you can hear the valve train and blower from the front of that car, and reference that vs the exhaust db... It's all relative, and still all skewed cause it's a video.

But again, full agree, it'll be different in person. But I heard enough to be able to tell I don't hate it.

pooter, I figured he was heavy footed trying to show the exhaust note. Concluded it was a 305 by the slow acceleration and not going over 5K rpm's. No problem saying that was a mistake if so. Really though, it didn't warrant all the excitement and emotion you put into it. I'm a nicer guy than what you assumed too.

Very disappointing how the ls1 sounds compared to a sbc. A cammed small block with flowmasters...... Drool all over myself. Which I do anyway. LS1s tend to sound like dog poo unless they have a the exact right exhaust. Whatever that may be.

Cool that after so long there are affordable true duals available. But the packaging dictates these dinky rice mufflers are all that fit.

Hey Brian.

Duals with bullets sound the best... unless you know, you are just driving around.

But idle/WOT it's amazing.

Grumbles in old man.

They do sound pretty good at idle. Everything else is terrible. Chambered mufflers sound like trucks at idle and great everywhere else. I've never had an exhaust in this car I've been happy with.
