Loved the sound of my duals/bullets dumped (was a lanes true dual setup if y'all remember those). Sounded good but drove the car minimum 3 hours a day up to 6+ hours the last few years I owned it. It got old.

I still day dream about making a setup using vette mufflers. To me vettes always sound the best, and most sound amazing with headers while still using the stock cat back. Never owned one so I'm not sure if it's a specific vette cat back...? I just remember hearing several c6's where they said they had stock cat back sound excellent. Always wondered if it was the muffler itself or the specific vette setup and that muffler. It's just a x pipe system, but damn they sound so much better than everything else IMO

X pipe bullets and cats sounded pretty corvetteish to me when I had that setup.

Mine did as well. But it's the ish part...

It's close but not quite the same. The actual corvette sound, to me, is the best of the best. Talking across all makes and models. When I sit and watch hours of street race videos nothing sounds as good as a vette screaming in the camera cars window

IMO the best sounding V8 is a Fox body 302 Ford. The mufflers were placed in front of the axle and the tail pipes were probably 5 or 6 ft long. It really isn't possible to duplicate that sound on a Fbody because the mufflers get placed behind the rear axle and the tailpipes are pretty short.

So I listed my duals for sale. No bites yet but my plan is to put my tsp y pipe back on and do a mufflex 3.5 system.

does the flow master on the mufflex suck as much as flowmaster catbacks?

Should I look elsewhere and piece together something?

The only Flowmaster that really sucks is the crossflow unit that comes on the catback F-body system. And that is due to the crossflow internal routing.

Everyone has a flowmaster. Sounds like a truck. I'd just run a tsp catback. Shouldnt run into any fitment issues and bolt right up.

My hawks 4” sinister showed up yesterday and my
22” long 7” DIA vibrant stainless muffler came Thursday. Got the 4” exhaust installed last night... they apparently use mufflex exhaust pieces and it fit amazing. I somehow have more clearance than my summit 3” catback and it cleared the stock PHB support. Muffler fit without trimming and has a gap between the muffler and the heat shield. I think im
gona love it but hope it’s not too loud. I haven’t started it yet but plan to today! Raining tho so no driving. I will pull it and creakote it after i run it for a while and see if I can deal with it.

I haven’t met a dual exit exhaust I’ve liked on a ls1 yet. The tsp may be good and I really wanted one for awhile but I’m thinking mufflex, just unsure what muffler to go with.

hawks won’t get a dime from me ever again. I’m still mad at them from what they did to me 15 years ago and I’ll hate them till I die. Hope the exhaust sounds good though.

dang man what did they do to you lol. I can’t say my experience with them was positive either. I ordered the catback 2 weeks ago, didn’t hear **** from them for 3 days so I called and messaged them on eBay they said I never provided my ypipe config so they were waiting but the listing never said anything about that. I sent it and didn’t hear back from them so I followed up 2/3 days. Finally a week later after ordering I call and finally get through and the guy said they are behind and it was shipping out that day. I got it 3 days later via fedex. When I called originally they said it would ship out next day but I ordered it on eBay and got free shipping bc they wanted like $50 on there website and it was free on eBay lol. Overall I’m happy with the catback but the order process wasn’t very smooth.

Started it up and shocked by how quiet it still is. Here are some videos. These idle shots are outside in the same spot so the sound should be close (nothing to echo off of)

here is the before video with the borla proXS muffler idling.

here is the after video with the 4” catback

Driving the car down the highway with 4” catback

honestly I took the car out for a drive and the car is much quieter than I thought. It’s louder than the borla 3” but not as loud as I was expecting. I was able to get alittle more turbo spool through the full exhaust but still nothing compared to what the cutout provides. Overall the car is still pretty quiet and I can cruise down the road with the windows down and not hear the exhaust much. Depending on how I feel I can always do a muffler delete or put something smaller in

I have single 3.5" exhaust on my truck with a magnaflow and it's really quiet and has a really nice sound.

Long tube headers, no cats, y pipe is dual 3" into single 3.5" with a magnaflow 12909 muffler.

Ah man, sold some parts and really considering the mufflex with magnaflow setup. My only requirements are no rasp, no drone lol.

it wont rasp but it may very well drone.

I'd run the magnaflow and see how it goes. If the casing is big enough with enough packing it should emit lots of resonance.

Drove my car out of state Monday (3-3.5 hrs driving total) 90% highway between 50-90mph and it didn’t drone one bit. Sounded fine and pretty quiet honestly. Maybe bc mine has a turbo up front it doesn’t drone but it’s def quieter than any NA car I’ve owned.

for those of you wondering my smaller oval case vibrant randomly shipped 3 weeks early from Jegs and arrive today. It’s a 5x9x15 case with 20” tota
length however it’s really 5.5”x9”x15” and a 19”
overall length. The way I fabbed the exhaust it fits the 22” long 7” DIA round muffler better after test fitting tonight. The smaller vibrant is a direct swap for the Hawks muffler delete pipe (same 19” length) and it’s a good bit cheaper than the maggy. The 7” round only hangs .75” lower than the oval so im fine with that and its not lower than my rear. I did not like how much gap is above the oval muffler than the heat shield... almost wished I could tuck the over axle pipe up higher and if I could then I would run the oval smaller muffler. I def picked up power over the 3” catback and got alittle more turbo whine but still
nothing compared to the cutout being open. got nothing bad to say with this hawks/mufflex catback, lots of ground clearance and great fitment.

Yeah turbos are like giant mufflers themselves, they really tone down the exhaust.

I had a car many years back that had a big loud exhaust on it, put a turbo kit on and kept the same catback. Was night and day

This is why turbodiesels often get away without mufflers.

So I am thinking of trying this https://www.summitracing.com/parts/a...0/applications with a 3" magnaflow or dynomax round muffler and then a make a tail pipe so it looks like a mufflex system.

Id prefer 3.5" but the price difference is worth it.

I was thinking of deleting the muffler all together and running the sinister kit with muffler delete but was worried it would be as loud as the cutout just out the tailpipe ya know. that could get old quick and thats why I have the muffler on it. Who knows what i will decide to do down the road lol. I know when I tested the 3" version with just a small resonator on it it was too loud inside my garage so I figure the 4" would be just as bad with no muffler. For the moment tho the exhaust is fine and I will decide what to do with it depending on how I drive it but I expect when I'm not working from home anymore that this would be taking the car out very early like 645am and I dont want to wake my family.
