thats what I just swapped from lol. I used the summit catback and removed the muffler and tail pipes and used a single in/out borla proXS offset with a single 3” driver side exit. It sounded fine and flowed better than the dual outlet style mufflers.

You used a summit cat back? what part number?

Want to sell the borla set up? from the muffler to the tail pipe?

Oh I see, you had the summit dual exit cat back and then just swapped a muffler to a single exit.

Hope this helps. LS7 exhaust manifolds dual 3" to flowmaster Y 4" (inlets are side by side and exhaust flow does not face each other, found it very popular on f-bodys) then after 3 feet necks down to 3.5".

The 3.5" goes into a ~14" long resonator and then continues for about half the car's length into a 3.5" HKS (as in japanese exhaust manufacturer) style muffler

This is with the stock L33 cam

This goes between the Y pipe outlet and the 3.5" exhaust, my "downpipe"

Damn that sounds good!

I need to do something. Heard a mitsubishi starion with a single exit exhaust, sounded way better than my car.

You should check out the spintech 3000 muffler. Very unique sound and it sounds fantastic, built like a tank.

This is a louder variant of what they make though. Comparable to flowmaster super 10s in volume. The muffler I recommended is more in the magnaflow 4x9 territory.

I will listen when I get home (better speakers lol)

I just went the hooker max flow way. $260 shipped plus I added some 3" lap joint band clamps, cant complain about that from y pipe to turndown!

I can add a spintech later on if I dont like the max flow. I am almost looking forward to quiet though, just worried about what the single 3" will do for HP/TQ.

Not much of a loss. Mostly mid range torque. Expect maybe a 20 wheel lb ft loss on an engine making 500 crank torque. It will honestly be just fine. The maxflow is great too. It has a deep, boomy sound that makes the engine sound 100 cubes bigger.

I would expect a quiet/fair idle and a fair cruising volume and a very loud wot presence.

And yes, I've personally used many mufflers on my LS on Y pipe, dual otb and dual dumped configs.

Cam only? Shoot, ya youd be good with what you want with no loss. I would recommend tailpipes for minimizing interior resonance.

I built my own because I'm a cheap bastard and shipping is expensive. Full stainless. Sounds pretty ok

I also went through many different exhaust configurations on my A4 car before I settled on the Maxflow. It's probably been around 10 years since I've been running it, and I haven't looked back. I since also installed them on my M6 car and G8. I find them mild mannered around town and just perfectly loud at WOT.

Thats good to read, got any picture of in on your fbody? 10 years is a long time. Every exhaust ive thrown on this ls1 I dont care for after awhile, I though the duals were gonna be on there for ever but I dont care for them. With the max flow I may run a pipe out the back to some spare tips I have and run a fake tip on the other side.

I suppose you could try the hideaway pipe and paint it all black. I saw someone sand their pipes, primer and paint high temp black and clear and polish and it looked great tucked up. Also, the maxflow is just a straight through muffler, same as what dynomax and magnaflow do. And usually dynomax is much cheaper. If it was me, I'd be different and go for something more unique like the spintech. (Pricey though, built to order and high quality) Owned it (3000f) and it was the best hands down. They make split case mufflers for our cars as well. They can literally build you whatever they want and for aluminized steel it will usually run you 130 bucks. They can even add glass packing to the surrounding case for even more sound dampening. I run an aerochamber now and it is a close second. The aerochamber also sounds unique being a sort of glasspack chambered fusion.

For the tailpipe, you could do it like borla does.

Borla exhaust
