Default FTP 104 Lid fits like garbage

Recently installed the ftp lid and this thing does not want to seal over the air filter. You can get it sitting right lock it down and it will eventually just pop right off. What gives? $100+ for a flimsy piece of plastic and it doesn't fit? Any solutions for this or a better product?

You have to get it just right. But it is flimsy.

And it rubs on my WS6 hood. In fact, it's nearly worn through.

I'd recommend either returning it and running the SLP lid or just moving to a Chrs1313 setup.

The better option is to remove the airbox and run a 4" tube down to the fender and run a 5" S&B cone filter in front of the driver's side wheel (requires !Air mod).

I like the idea of running the cone filter. Have you done this and have any tips?

Not yet. I'm going to. My fab guy is backed way up, though.

But I saw where he did it for a GTO with pie cuts. It was pretty sweet.

Of course, since the F-Body is a bottom breather, the best option is still probably grabbing air like the air box does. Corvettes do it this way too, and it works. But they have more room for a properly sized box on top. Which is my moving to something like the Chrs1313 ram air or some of the carbon fiber intakes that replace the hood latch work well. They have enough volume for fresh air. Otherwise, I'd just use the ram air inlets on the hood. But the box and lid are the limitation. A 5x8" S&B with a 4" tube is going to grab a lot of air.

Bspeck82, does the FTP 104 lid fit poorly with the air filter out?

On my TA certain air filters caused lid fit issues. The K&N air filter was always a real hassle to get sealed.

My FTP 104 lid with paper filter or Green filter fits well on my TA. Stock TA hood just touches the FTP 104 Lid and rubs a little. My TA also has the tall WS6 lower air box. Three years with FTP 104 no issues.

Doesnt fit too great without a filter either but the main issue is WITH a filter, which I got a cheapo AutoZone stp filter for now, when I try to clamp it down it doesn't want to latch on. I can get it to latch but if I smack the frame of the car or intake manifold it just pops right of the clamps.

Also running a 100maf with it to a rubber hose that's very flexible.

For almost 200 bucks this is disappointing. I would be open to using something else but I'm not sure what else out there fits this maf without another coupler.

This sounds like the aftermarket intake solutions for the '92-'97 LT1 setups on the F-bodies. 20 years ago, I had a Callaway Honker intake system on my '95 T/A that had a big cone filter in front of the driver wheel well. The molded intake tract attached to the top of the frame, and the cone filter mounted to the bottom of the frame. Can you get a 4" tube from the TB to that fender location without crushing the tube? Was it HiO that made a custom fiber air intake that replaced the air box, hood latch and wiper fluid reservoir? I'm interested to see what you come up with.

Bspeck82,

That's definitely an annoying situation with a lid. It might be worth a call to Fast Toys to see if they will exchange for a replacement. Found this number on the net for FTP. 877-955-4896. Hopefully FTP will try to be helpful.

Maybe the foam on the filter is too thick. Did you try a different air filter?

Ive tried acdelco stp and wix. Either way it should be a one size fits all. It's a lid. A 200$ lid made very cheaply at least they could make it fit.

Nah mine fits like *** as well. I glued on some extra tabs onto the lid for the latches to grab onto and it seals it super tight.
