CNC heads vs more gear
Thanks. Gears it is then. Now on to finding someone competent enough to install them correctly. Are 4x4 offroad places usually decent with these? I would think so. I got a quote a while back that wasn't cheap at $1k labor plus parts. I'd normally tackle the install as I am with the engine stuff, but I'm not comfortable changing out gears.
Isnt $800 steep for labor on a gear install? I thought a dedicated transmission/driveline shop would be able to do the work in a few hours, not 6-7. Ive gotten 3 quotes amd they are all around the same cost.

Yeah labor on a gear swap in a properly equipped shop regularly engaged in that business should come to about 2½ - 3 hrs of shop labor; say, $350 ± $50 or thereabouts. Parts should be around $200 for the gears, $125 for the kit, and maybe $50 for misc like fluids, plus a fair markup; say 25 - 33%, which should be maybe $450 - $500 or so total. So, a $800 - $1000 check, drive-in to drive-out.
