Actually.....my filter came with a foam rubber gasket to attach to the lid because apparently they don't fit properly. And this was the correct part.

mine came with that crapy sealer too. except i know someone that sucked that piece up in the motor cause it dry rotted

Yuck. I just inspected mine about a day ago...I should be safe for now. My stock tires from 98 are about to dry-rot off...and they still have tread on them.

I beg to differ. Fram air filters work very well. It's their oil filters that suck. On the other hand, you know my low opinion of K&N air filters, but their oil filters are among the best out there.

fram paper filters can get really soggy and nasty in high humidity weather and rain. 90% of the ones i pull out of cars seem to be really smushy, id go with the purolator paper air filter if anything. but thats just my opinion

Yeah, I guess I could have qualified that. They work really well where I live out here in the desert.
Blowing dirt and sand are major problems out here and good filtration is paramount if you want an engine to last. I'm **** about changing the filters, and checking the intake for leaks. In fact, on 2 out of 3 almost new LS1 f-bodies I've checked, I've found separation of the seal in back of the airbox. Major design defect, as far as I'm concerned. I went to an aftermarket lid to ensure a good seal. With a hole in the intake, it's a moot point what filter you use.

I still have my paper filter in. My buddys offered to give me his old K&N since he's got an ATI headunit. It's good to know that it's a good filter. I've hear positive and negative but I think I'm going to put it in regardless. I know many people who have had it and have had no problems.

One thing that has been overlooked is that if you seal your hood to the airbox in the WS6 etc. do NOT use a paper filter. Soggy paper filters is not a good thing. Get the Holley Powershot (better fit) and you won't have to worry about water in your intake or decreased flow due to wet paper. Same with the under the car ram air mods. Use an oiled filter.

sorry to hijack the thread, but i have a k&n but dont have the oil, can i just spray some degreaser on there and clean it with water? it seems really hard to clean. there is a bunch of dirt build up and **** all clogged in the ridges. i dont know what to do. this makes me just want to buy a paper filter.

Some do believe that you can just use any good degreaser (like Fantastic, 409 etc.) but I don't recommend that, I like the real stuff.
As far as oiling, do NOT use anything but the K&N (or Holley maybe) oil on that filter, and don't go crazy when spraying, just a nice thin layer covering all the white spots nad just let that thin layer soak itself in...less is more.
I wouldn't get a paper filter if you already have the K&N, just get a recharge kit from one of the great board sponsors that sell it.

i realize that is my mistake now, but will the recharge kit really get all the dirt, hair, nasty ****, etc. out of it?

Yes, as long as you use it properly. Spray the cleaner on the filter (just one side though I think, the instructions will give details) and let it sit for a short period, then rinse (but DO NOT power wash) it with running water from a hose. Repeat if necessary.

K&N = It fits fine it flows great, its definatly better than paper, Get It. Ive never had any problems with K&N, i use them on every car i have and ya ur not really gonna notice a difference in speed but its reusable just keep up on cleaning it.

The conical K&Ns are pretty good, but the flat-panel ones for our cars suck. I had sand and grit getting to my MAF with the K&N and have had none when switching back to paper. I have the K&N out in my garage somewhere that someone local can pick up for CHEAP if they want it...
