Default throttle cable adjustment / too tight

I've searched and attempted to let slack out via the plastic clips on both cables with adjustment but they're already out all of the way. After looking into it a bit further I believe my traction control module that has pedal, cruise, and throttle cable hooked up to it is sticking up. The throttle body still will not sit on the adjustment screw - it's stuck opened a bit unless I manually put pressure on the flap to come down OR I turn the TC assembly which seems to be the source of the tension. Is there any way to adjust or reset this? Link provided is for a video via google photos of me playing with the cable at the throttle body which shows the problem then at the TC module which appears to be the source of the tension at 0% throttle position.

Worth noting: I'm rounding the corner on putting a junkyard motor and a turbo kit on the car. I've never detached any of the cables outside of the throttle cable at the throttle body. Everything else has just been sitting under the hood for three years. I believe this as well as the new SD tune I've written on it are both causing me idle issues. Any help is appreciated.

Are you wanting to keep traction control? If not get a throttle cable for a car without traction control and run it straight to the throttle body and get rid of the TC unit

It would appear though, that your TC unit is sticking. You can try lubing it, replacing it, or manipulating the throttle cable bracket forward.

Also, I think, not sure, but I think there is an adjustment on the tc cables too. It's been too many years since i've played with f bodies to remember

I was going to retain traction and cruise control since it was there but what I am not willing to do is spend money to retain either of the two on a weekend car. There is a second cable that has an adjustment which I do believe is traction control but I messed with it enough to confirm that adjustment of that cable wouldn't solve my problem. Thanks for the reply - I'll have to get back on it when I get back in town on Sunday.

update: I've lubed the gears in there yet there is still tension upon release of the throttle.

I ended up taking the gyro assembly apart. I removed the 2x torx screws from the back of the assembly, the clip from the top, and slid the assembly off of the assembly shaft.. The second I did that, the motor more or less reversed like there was preload on the whole gyro assembly from the motor (which doesn't make sense to me). I pulled the gear attaching the motor to the shaft and moved it a few teeth over, and reassembled it. Now the throttle body spring brings the throttle body down to the mechanical idle set screw on the throttle body. The problem now oddly enough seems to be resolved.

I also plan on hooking up HP tuners to assure 100% throttle puts the TPS @ 100% but I have yet to test this. I believe it should work as there isn't any visual slack in the throttle cable.

I've started the car (idles great now) and moved it back and forth in my driveway but have yet to drive the car around as I still need to wire the installed pusher fans, bleed brakes, etc so I have yet to toggle traction control on/off or see if cruise still works but SEEMINGLY thus far this has solved my issue.

Glad you seem to have it figured out.

Throttle cable issues are the worst, I've been dealing with the opposite. My cruise control doesn't work so I may just buy a non TC cable and be done with it. My cable has way too much slack and when I try to shift at high RPM my throttle gets stuck open and I repeatedly hit the limiter. I've tried searching on here but even using goggle I can't seem to find any threads that state the same issue I'm having.

@Kingc8r That sucks. 2 ideas: Have you tried tightening the cables up via the adjustment via plastic clips on the throttle cable? Have you lubed the cable at the ends in attempt to prevent binding between the cable and the sleeve?

If you've tried both of those I'd recommend taking the cover off of the TCS module and playing with the throttle while you're looking at it. It's easier to fix something if you can figure out what's causing the issue. If you're willing to give up cruise & traction control (which you obviously are) you have nothing to lose in the event you break the module or you can't get it back together. If the TCS module is not the source of the issue, perhaps you'll be able to identify which cable is dragging and trace the problem from there as they all feed to that one assembly.

If you buy a non TC cable make sure you get the right one. I believe the 98-00? have a smaller? throttle body linkage thus have a shorter non TC cable than the 01-02. Maybe I have it backwards. Search/ask before purchasing.
Best of luck.

I'll try the tabs I haven't had much time to mess with it. I'll try to lube it as well. If that doesn't fix it then I'll buy a new one I was just surprised it had some much slack since my Auto 00 Z28 never ran into this issue even though it has twice the miles. Car is non TC, it doesn't have the TCS module in the engine bay unless the previous owner deleted it.

Hopefully the rain goes away tomorrow so I can also adjust my parking brake tabs as well as doing the wire mod and start on my Linelock install.
