Starter hitting boss on L33 block. (Using transaxle adapter plate)
Everything was going off without a hitch, except trying to install a stock starter (For the 06 silverado that the block is from) has failed miserable. May be hard to visualize but below is a picture of the adapter late, engine side. You can see the cutout for the starter nose.
Below that is a picture of an L33 block (Taken from this site, not my own). I have circled the boss that is making this impossible. What is the purpose of that boss? I have yanked both engine mounts and suspended the engine hoping for more room, but looks like it won't squeeze by the outer edge of the adapter, and that boss. Also don't think I have room to surgically remove that boss, either. (Maybe I could shave some with a sawzall but unknown how much space I actually need)
Thoughts?
Thanks guys!
I just sent the truck starter back and bought a Powermaster starter, as I still assumed the LS3 starter was no different.
I agree with you about the milling. Hell, had I known, I would have hollowd it out myself another 1/8"!
Do you foresee any issues with the Powermaster style of starter (No nose cone). I don't like the idea of aftermarket very much, and am concerned about alignment and longevity, but, it's already on it's way and isn't that much more expensive I suppose.
Thanks for the reply!

I don't know much about the Powermaster starter I'm guessing it's like one of those mini starters. I'd assume they will work fine but I've never used one so I cant say much about them. Alignment was something I was worried about since other adapters I've used in the past didn't work that well and began eating up teeth on the flywheels and as you know how much this setup costs that was the last thing I wanted but so far engagement has been really good so I have no complaints in that department. I'm guessing you'll be ok but definitely let us know when you get it in I like to have other options open. Good luck!
