Default 98' WS6 Exhaust suggestions

I recently completed a few engine upgrades on my stock 98' WS6 (swapped to LS6 heads, LS6 intake, Lingenfelter Cam, long tube headers & Y-pipe, and a tune). Cats were removed. I bought the car bone stock minus an SLP Loudmouth exhaust. After the upgrades it was way too loud. We added an SLP loudmouth II bullet muffler but it's still WAY too loud. Looking for suggestions to quiet it down and remove the raspy rattle sound without robbing too much power. I prefer a toned (not obnoxious) exhaust. Any suggestions?

Corsa used to make an fantastic looking and sounding cat back for 4th Gens that performed very well. I'd sell the SLP LM & get the Corsa.

Lot of ideas here too...

I like the hooker blackheart tru-dual system.
No rasp. Not super loud but louder than the stock catback.

I do like my Magnaflow (16723). It does a fantastic job of harnessing all the noise that is an F-body ORY without having to add a bunch of cats and resonators. Yet it gets plenty rowdy when you lay into it. Side note, I will have a Corsa setup for sale this weekend. Has a whole 4 miles on it!

You’ll get a lot of subjective “this is the best” type of replies to this but really anything that puts a traditional muffler in the stock location (between axle and gas tank) will sound much better and be more livable than a bullet muffler (or 2) in the intermediate pipe. Lots on here say duals are best but honestly I’ve seen 800+ whp made through a 3” y setup and I’ve never heard duals that sound better than a regular catback for these cars. Plus they always fit terrible and have less clearance.

My “this is the best exhaust” suggestion is the TSP catback with the regular muffler. Not the loudmouth style catback they offer. Loud enough to know but not loud enough to hate. Plus the best sound I’ve heard out of one of these cars.

I second the magnaflow catback if you want something on the more quiet side..still has plenty of sound with a cam though..it's one of the few exhaust systems that doesn't drone at highway speeds. Fairly quiet at idle but louder at WOT. Here's mine at the track, you can barely hear it idling, but obviously louder when you open it up.

With your EXTREMELY limited mods, there are tons of mufflers you could choose from that would give you luxury car quiet without robbing horsepower. To be fair, however, I must admit that most will weigh at least as much or more than a stock muffler. The reality, however, is that your car could be quieter than stock without losing power. The factory exhaust sound was tuned to appeal to musclecar enthusiasts.

On the less expensive side, it's hard to beat the sound per $$$ of the Texas Speed catback. The Corsa sounds awesome but more expensive.

I have a Magnaflow on my car, it flows as good as any 3" setup and is fairly quiet at low RPM, but it gets decently loud at WOT. I also added a Flowmaster 4" merge to my Y-pipe along with a 4" cutout. IMO this is the best Y-pipe cat back setup you can do with these cars, unless you want it loud all the time.

I chose the Magnaflow 16723 and have been pretty happy with it…but like others have said, sound is up to each individual…idle and cruising is a low rumble, it really wakes up at WOT, but not obnoxiously loud.

i purchased from these guys and paid $640, Oct 2018…they had some special going on.

Did you notice any sound difference when you added the 4" merge? Any sound clips of your car? I've been wanting to chop my Y pipe and put in a 4" merge and swap my magnaflow catback to a 4" mufflex/magnaflow.

Just to be clear, I still have the 3" Magnaflow behind the 4" cutout, I do not have the Mufflex 4" with a Magnaflow muffler on it, which is much louder than my setup.

I didn't notice much difference in sound after switching to the Flowmaster merge. However I don't get any sort of rasp in that 1800-2500 rpm area that a lot of Y-pipe setups have.

I think I have a sound clip somewhere, I'll see if I can post it on Youtube and get back to you on that.

Here's a sound clip of my setup with the cutout closed. TSP 1-7/8 headers, Flowmaster 3"-4" merge, back through a Magnaflow 3"system.
