Default Dorman 264-969 valve cover
Has anyone used the updated Dorman valve cover on a LS1? Any benefit?

If that's the center-bolt one, yes. It has improved oil baffles, like the later trucks, that reduce the amount of it getting into the PCV.

Do you know if the LS1 coil pack bracket fits on the cover?

The truck ones do. Both styles. AFAIK they're the same footprint as the car ones, so, ...
