Default Hypertech Powerstats

Recently we've had a few requests for the 160* Tstat for LS1/LS6 Fbods and Vettes, and we've had a few people call back and say that the stat didn't fit. At first I thought that these people may have been but have since witnessed first hand on a few 02 Fbodies and on an 03 ZO6 that it didn't fit. So I called Hypertech and told them that the stats didn't fit, and when I measured the stock compared to the Hypertech, the Hypertech was actually about a half inch wider... hence the reason why the stats won't even fit into the hole. They said that is because the cars have the new water pumps from the 04-05 years.... then I told him that none of the cars were that old. Their reply was that the water pump was changed out, but then when I said it happened to my car, and I've owned my car since it had 3 miles on it, and it has never had the water pump replaced, he said they don't know why it doesn't fit, they must've put the '04-'05 water pumps on the cars.
Anyone else have this problem?

Well, if Hypertech is correct ANYONE who has replaced thier water pump with a GM Pump since Feb. 03 IS going to have this problem. Plus, it looks like all late 01-03 LS1/6 engines used a new pump as well.

#12558839 GM OE for 97 Corvette
#12369537 GM OE for 98-01 (early) F-Body and Corvette
#12458934 GM OE for late 01-03 F and Corvette
#89017456 GM OE and replacement for 04 Corvette and GTO
#89017457 GM OE and replacement for 05 LS2 Corvette and 04-05 CTS-V LS6
#88894345 GM replacement For 98-02 F-Body and 97-03 Corvette. New # starting Feb 03.

I hope this helps a little.

Lingenfelter sells a new style 160 T-stat for around $26 and I think I've seen Tbyrne advertising one for around $20. I've installed the Lingenfeltor one in a 04 Vette. It is just a t-stat and doesn't include the housing.

Oh yea, Vinci has one for $100.

Negative Ghost Rider.... I asked them that, and they said nothing is made yet, but it's in the works.

I'll check that out... that would be better anyways, I think. The stock stat pops out of the housing like a regular Tstat, so there's no reason why you need to replace the whole housing. Good looking out, thanks!!

The original style t-stats are not separate from the housings.

Do they make any kind of thermostat conversion yet for the old water pumps to a normal type of thermostat. The prices on those things is way retarded. It's a friggin thermostat, not a gold nugget (which the manufacturers are apparently confused about).
