Unhappy Crap under intake

Hi guys,
I just finished taking my LS1 intake off and I was shocked to find a lot of crap, dust, even leaves under the intake between the intake ports. I took some pics.

This can not be normal, right???? I have never had the intake off before and from the looks of it, the crap has been collecting for a while.

Has anyone else seen anything like this on their car???

yes mine looked like that, not quite as bad, but the same idea. Mine had been on for 38k miles, so it had plenty of time to collect. Just make sure you clean it up, well i did anyways, and clean up the intake ports so the new intake seats good. good luck with the rest!

I had some crap under mine, not quite that much though. Depends on how dusty/dirty your driving conditions are. There isn't anything sealing the intake in that area. As long as it's not making it into the intake ports past the rubber gaskets, shouldn't hurt anything. Driving around the Texas dust devils and not through them might help a little too.

Thanks guys, I feel better now ... even though I just found out that the "pop" I heard when I pulled the intake was the oil sensor snapping ...

Cheers

Yeah, I'm waiting for my new oil pressure sending unit. Any tips on reinstalling everything without destroying it?

Hey bull99ls1,
the install was a snap. I got a GM oil sensor socket from the O'reilly auto parts store. Just make sure you lift the brake booster line over the new oil sensor unit when you put the intake back on and you should be set.

Thanks for the response. Just to be doubly sure and run no risking of screwing it up, which is the brake booster line?

I found that the split in the plastic cowl (behind the hood, around the wipers) lets water run right on top of the intake and it gets under the intake and then dirt sticks in the water. I sealed up the split and sealed the hood weather strip with clear silicone and now everything stays dry, and much cleaner.
