Default LS6/90 LSX WOT MAP Comparrison & Install Info

Application is my car.

Full tuning capabilities with in car wideband (integrated)

With the LS6 and a home ported TB (no MAF or air filter) My WOT MAP would show around 97/98/99, mostly 98's... dip into the 99 occasionaly..

With the 90 LSX installed , same setup as above.. 99 solid and dip into 100. This is wth the SAME MAP sensor on both intakes.

Fuel trims seem the same so I believe the intake is sealed. I sprayed some carb cleaner around all the edges (except the back) and idle remained constant.

I put a piece of cardboard over the TB to cut the air and it semi-breathed through the cardboard. it was sucking hard.

Car feels really fast.. hard to notice a difference though.. SOTP has not been calibrated in a while. Car is stock internals.

Car definately has a MUCH crisper throttle response and revs faster.

Install info:

I did nick the bearing on each side to keep it from moving out. Also, the cam did rotate on the shaft.. but here is when it happened. If you open the TB all the way and then let it snap shut under its own power the shaft does cam does spin on the shaft just a pinch. If this happens enough the TB will reach full closed position and get stuck. When you try to open it again the cam will spin even more on the shaft.

I took the cam off of the shaft and ground down a flat spot. It does an OK job but not perfect. Tightened the screw down pretty damn tight. Another thing I did was use the idle adjuster screw to open the TB enough where it won't get "stuck" in the TB. IAC's are around 15 or so at idle. meh.

TPS voltage closed was .65 or so, WOT was 4.67.

My FAST TB did not come with screws for the IAC or TPS. I had to reuse factory bolts. They are too long for IAC so I had to use nut spacers. meh.

Intake.. I did not seperate the intake. It did not come with runner gasets so I had to pull them off of my old LS6. Put the new bolts on the valley cover. Zip tied the MAP down. meh.

Remove the nuts from the bottom of the long bolts (for shipping)... installed intake. Torqued down to 50 in/lbs, then 70 in/lbs.. I didn't have the spec so I figured that felt ok.

I took some movies and pics. I'll post them when I have some time.

I should be hitting the track this saturday. I have much sweeter tune now. I must have logged over 100,000 frames today.

I supposed I should go to sleep now. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask.

You would think FAST would fix all those irritating problems and include new gaskets for the price you pay for the thing!

Good luck at the track, looking forward to hearing the results!

How about you scatter-plot us up [BARO-MAP] vs
RPM from these pulls? Nice to see them overlaid
against each other. Figure [BARO-MAP]/BARO is
the fraction of engine HP "left on the table" on the
intake side. Or, MAP/BARO is the engine "intake
tract efficiency".

I was really tired when I wrote that post.

MAP sensor reads 100 kPa with the engine off.

I said the same thing about a thousand times during the installation process.

Oh yea, I also need to thank Horist for all of the install help. Thanks Mike!

What tuning changes at WOT have you made or is that coming at the track.

Just curious if the switch caused your WOT A/F to change or required a timing change.

The switch did not cause any noticeable A/F changes.

Its just an intake swap, it shouldn't require tuning like that. If tuning picks up power over an LS6 I'd say your tune was off in the first place.

I'm really interested to see the profile of MAP w/ RPM.
On my car I have things pretty good intake-wise (given
a stumpy little stock cam) and see my MAP holding a
pretty steady 14.5 - 14.4PSI across the WOT RPM
range (BARO=14.7). The intake tract is not the airflow
limiter in my case. I guess if I threw a couple of $K
at headers, heads and cam I could make it the limiter.

But anyway I think a graphical comparison of the logs
would illuminate the difference nicely. So cough it up.

AGree with all said by Keith, and here are a few other tid-bits:

- 90mm TB fits fine, but do not torque until the TB is flush with the intake. The rubber seal is thick, and you will risk cracking the front portion.
- The top portion of the 90mm FAST TB does not match up with the FAST intake. Fitment is poor, which sucks, because we had the top portion of the intake painted Sunset Orange for the customer, and now there is unpainted portion exposed at the top of the TB
- We have found throttle respinse to be very much improved. Customers can't believe how just a slight blip of the throttle gets the car moving. Really responsive!
- Aftermarket fuel rails bolted up without any issues
- Also having to use the idle set screw to avoid the blade sticking. Kind of annoying.
