Header Advice

Default Header Advice

I am going to be getting TPiS headers and y-pipe with cats and was wanting to know what all I am going to need and the easiest way to get it. First of all, the headers are from a 99 and are going on my 2000, so I think I will need to turn the egr pipe first off. Also, what is the easiest way to go about getting o2 extensions? I understand that stock gaskets work fine but don't know exactly what else I should plan for with an upcoming install in September. I have been reading about some extreme methods of lifting the car enough to fit the LTs so that advice would help also. Any info/advice would be great.

I'm not sure about the EGR as I have an 01. As for the o2 extensions, try an autoparts store, and if not; check out the sponsors. ------->
Depending in whether or not the headers will fit right in, the front of the car will have to be at least 2 feet off of the ground. Take your time when lifting up the car and remember to be very safe. Scope www.installuniversity.com for lifting tips. You'll only need a few basic handtools (socket set and , some combo wrenches come to mind). Someone to help you out and lots of beverages, water or other things also helps. Also some safety glasses are important when you're taking off the old components. Just take your time and have fun.

Thanks for the info and the link. I will keep lookin through the sponsors for o2 extensions. The plan as of now is to get stock gaskets to replace the old, get o2 extensions, and sorta figure out everything else once I am underneath the car. I am guessing a lift is the answer to my prayers, but I will figure somethin out. Looking on the TPiS page, it seems like they only make one style header for 1998-2001?? Any help in this area would be great.

Damn, I guess I will have to yank the AIR system putting a 99 header on a 2000! Since I am doing this, would it be just as effective to pull the egr also and/or get o2 sims??? Maybe I'll just look for the AIR system from a 98-99. Could I get both the egr and air from a friends 99 race style headers that he removed and just replace these parts to keep all my emmisions?? LMK everybody

ok been there, done this. just the other way around. putting 00 headers on a 99. i twisted the AIR tubes 90* to make them work. the EGR, you'll have to get the tubes for a 99. in 99 the location was in the front cylinder. in 00 they relocated to the second cylinder. so, in your case that shortens it about 4-6 inches. and the tube doesn't bend very well. http://www.stealthram.com/bassaniheadersinstall.html you can see in the pics the different location.

I would yank the EGR and AIR. Get someone with a tuner to delete them both and delete the rear 02's and be done with it. Is there a website for these TPiS headers you speak of?

Thanks for the information and pics of install, I will definitely use this. Did you get o2 extensions or entire new sensors? Also, did you use sims on the bungs after the cats? Where did you get the extensions/sims if you used them? Thanks

Default Full length headers to fit LS1 in a 1970 GTO

Hey,

Does anyone know if full length headers are available to fit an LS1 that I am putting in a 1970 GTO? Or will I have to make some?

Ok, my newest idea is pick up some sims for the back, extensions for the front and yank the air and egr and put blockoff plates everywhere. It definitely wont look as smooth as the race style headers, but it will certainly clean up the arbitrary tubing running around in the engine bay. The question is do I HAVE to have these deleted before the car will run or is this an emmisions test passing deal only?

did not have to get extensions with the bassani headers. and no i'm still using the factory rear o2s.

this picture shows the locations of the EGR and AIR for the passenger side factory manifolds.


this picture shows where the locations are for 00 vehicles on the headers. you can see where the EGR has moved further back to the second tube. and the AIR mounting is turned 90* as compared to the 99

If you need the '99 emissions stuff, I've got the air tubes, and the egr pump with tubing. I'll let you have them really cheap, they're just collecting dust in my closet. Let me know via pm if you're interested.
