Default Has anyone else done this?

My exhaust mods are as listed in my sig. I’m about to do heads, cam and N20 so I really need to lose the cats and do with a dual setup. The problem is that I have an SS with the center mount exhaust, and I’m not so sure that a dual system with enough length and bends to make it out my CME tips would still be advantageous.

So here is the idea…

Buy a KooKs off road Y, install two cutouts in the Y. One would be installed on each side just before the first bend in the Y. They would be equal length (about 10”) from the collectors and just have turn downs on them.

Would this build the same power that dumped duals do? Or would this take away too much back pressure?

This would only be for dyno and the track so noise isn’t a concern..

Its not a back pressure issue. True duals scavenge the exhaust more than the best flowing Y pipe possible. You'll be giving up probably 5-10 peak hp by not going true duals, but you'll be giving up even more midrange power which doesnt mean much at the track. To me, duals are too much of a PITA to offset the advantages, especially on a daily driver.

i didn't feel like spending a lot of money right now on my exhaust, so i bought used macs with an or pipe that already had dual cutouts in it......after the y they just go into a glasspack that's attatched to a hanger on the seatbelt bolt.....anyways, dual cut outs are loud as ****, but i love them.....not wanting to spend a lot of money, like i said, i haven't gotten the car tuned, but i've been driving it open for abut 800 miles and for the first few days it felt stronger everytime i drove it........i didn't want to cap them because i'm going to the track and i want the computer to learn the cutouts....maybe that's a stupid thought, i dont know.....you can tell there is a loss of low torque, but with my 3.73 gears it doesn't really matter........i just wish it was as fast as it sounds!
