Default Changed my mind about descreening my MAF...

I was just about to descreen my MAF...but I changed my mind. Something I noticed was if you take the MAF, and blow through the screened end from any angle (even almost across the screen), the air really does come straight out the other end. I am reluctant to do this now because if you look at the way our lids allow the air to be pulled, I can see most of the air ending up at the top of the MAF. Which is also more than likely why our cars go lean with the lid. Even with the screen to straighten the airflow, with the way the lid is shaped alot of the air is going to sneak past the sensor. Descreening is probably just going to make it worse. Just something to think about...

Good observation - another case where GM engineers maybe knew more than generally given credit for.

I have been looking it all over and now I am wondering if that stock SS lid is more MAF-friendly than the regular one. Has anyone noticed if the SSs are tuned differently from the Z-28s in 2002 (particularly the MAF table)?

I've run screened and descreened and noticed very little LTFT differences, which leads me to believe that the screen does very little. Also, remember that GM removed the screen from the 02+ LS6 setup...I'm sure the MAF table was tweaked though.

I was about to point that out as well, apparently the GM engineers DID know more than they're given credit for.
Of course the Corvette/Z06 air boxes are different than the F-body ones.
I'm a firm believer in 'descreening of the MAF' in most applications, I do feel that it helped my car.
