Default Boom Tube info?

I was looking at LS1sounds.com a few days ago, and noticed the awesome LT1 with the boom tube exhaust. I'm not sure if I want to go this route or something more simpler, like a GMMG catback and cutout. The sound on that thing is awesome, but don't want to just throw all my previous research away because I found an exhaust that sounds good. I can't find much more info than a 3 vids and a dyno (w/o gain #'s) No one would happen to have any dyno numbers or any info relating the perfromance of it instead of just a sound clip would they? I know this is a lot to ask considering very few f-bods actually have one. NataSS I saw your dyno with one on, how much did you gain? Nice final numbers by the way. I just want something that will perform well, has a unique sound, and not everyone has the same exhaust set-up as me. Thanx for any info.

There are, I believe, two F-bodies with boom tubes, so I think its safe to say it would be unique. As far as I know, it flowed great and its ungodly loud.

if you do a search for boom tubes you will likely find some useful info on them.

do a search, there have been a few discussions on this actually. not many people have them at all, due to the fact that they are earthshatteringly loud, apparently louder than open headers. its sounds damn good, but unless you wanna be heard for miles, and limited night driving ability due to noise complaints from everyone within a 1/2 mile radius. otherwise go for it.

The boom tube gave me a gain of around 25rwhp. But you suffer on the bottom end until about 3000. then it takes off once the exauhst velocity picks up.

And yes it is VERY loud. So loud that I am looking over my shoulder every time I drive the car wondering when I am going to get pulled over. And thats just putting along. Once the throttle goes down everyone in a 1.5 mile radius knows your coming.

Putting one of these together can be very expensive as well. Not one of the parts is a direct fit for our cars. Unless you can weld you are going to have to pay someone to do this. Figure a day or better to get everything lined up and put together and a 1/2 day of install and rechecking. Clearance on my set up SUCKS, I cant go anywhere with speed bumps.

Is it worth all the headaches? Oh hell yeah, I get a TON of compliments on the set up. Scott Settlemeyer (sp) saw it last month at the "All Chevy" show here and was pretty impressed with it. But just wait till your sitting at a stop light and 2 cars behind you johnny law dog pulls up. Pucker factor goes up REAL quick. But with my car, its not just he boom tube that could give me problems. Something about a complete roll cage, modified factory safety equip, etc, etc.

Yeah, and one more thing about NataSS's car.....it sounds like Dale Jr is in the road with you. It is LOUD, but I've heard it on the hwy next to me, and blowing by on the race course @ 140mph+ and it sounds freakin AWSOME!

I heard the clip on LS1sounds and it sounds awesome. What if you ran a muffler with these things? Are you supposed to?

Once you get everythig under the car there really isnt much space for mufflers. I suppose you could put some chambered mufflers in line, but they would negate any of the possitive effects of the boom tube. a boom tube is all about free flow and zero restrictions. The boom tubes have little NACA ducts built all over inside of them to increase the scavanging effect. Putting something inline would just hamper them.

^ It is.

Nata, how much did your system weigh compared to your previous set-up? I am pretty sure I still want to go through with the boom tube btw. I am aware of all the drawbacks now and think i'll be able to handle it. Thanks for everyone elses input.

Yeah a price start to finish with all the parts and then maybe an hour estimate for those who are going to pay for labor would be great. Wish I could hear it!!

Equal length "4 ovalized X pipe, same side exit: 625.00
1/2 dual inlet boom tube. 299.95
couple of lengths of "3 round tubes & misc bends 1xx.00 (cant remember exactly what this cost)

My install took about 2 days but we had to modify a couple things. Depending how you did your set up, it would vary. We "could" have done it in 1 full day but wanted to make sure it was right.

You end up spending a serious chunk of change.
