Anybody who's gotten the coated Pacesetters, did
you look inside the primaries and collectors and see
whether they are coated inside, or just outside?

Here's the link with pictures. Looks like they are only coated on the outside:

my friend put the lts,ls6,and tr224 in his a it ran fine with out the tune, I tune is always the best route. I know that speed inc charges 400-500 for custom tuning, hp tuners is 500, buy it and then you can tune all the time, I have it and it is great, just find someone in your area and split it, then its more reasonable.

That's assuming one or both of those splitting it already have a decent working laptop as well, if not that's another $300.00 - $800.00 depending on if you get one used or new.

Regarding HP Tuners and doing it yourself...

Also, isn't there sort of an art to tuning? Like not everyone can just do it....

And you also arent getting actual dyno numbers to see your changes results.

Where I live, Vette Doctors does LS1edit dyno tunes for $299 w/$125 retunes. Not bad...

Pacesetter's are a decent bang for the buck, but not a top quality header. When they came out we installed about 6 set's,all with minor clearancing problems.Since then 4 customers have been back to take them off and install better headers like Kooks,QTP ect.

Carmen at the Vette Doctors is very good and it will be a dyno tune. Probably your best move. I used him before to tune my 383 Stroker and he worked on it all day to get it right and the price stayed the same. I definately recommend him...

Slowhawk,
I'm assuming you realize the new one's are revised and don't have clearance problems anymore. Can you specifically why the people brought the car back to swap them out for more expensive headers...

How long were they on those 4 guys cars? What type of shape were they in when you took them out? How was the level of rust? (I'm assuming they were all coated headers-if not please state otherwise)

I have heard from a few local guys that they are holding up real well even through rain, snow, salt etc etc. From the suggestion of another member I am planning on putting about 3 coats of Hi-temp clear coat to help out with the durability.

2001 pewter WS6,
Thx for the feedback on the vette docs...sounds good.

Here's my 02 cents on the pacesetters. The fit and finish is good, not great. They fit very well in the car. No notching of the K member, although I did have to take a sawsall to the engine block (a casting tab was in the way). My biggest complaint is that they cheaped out on the AIR and EGR fittings. They are not threaded, so you have to use backing nuts, and that sucks! There's almost no room for your hands on the passenger side, and it makes it a nightmare if you have to remove those fittings often, considering that if you drop somthing in the engine bay, you might as well kiss it goodbye. I think I might just jb weld the bolts in place from the bottom up, not sure.

I'm not all done with the install, being I lost too many of those damn nuts for the AIR fittings. I'll post again when I can start the car.

I just installed my coated PaceSetters that i ordered from TSP about a month ago, and i have to say, the new line of PS LT's are awsome. the flanges are great and thick, and the collectors are really nice as well. I just really need a tune bad in my A4. I lost the down low power, but pulles like a raped ape up high

Finished the install of my Pacesetter LT's with TSP Catted 3" Y pipe. The Pacesetter LT's are great. No leaks and aside from cutting that casting tab off the block, they fit great. The TSP Catted Y pipe is too low for a lowered car, it will be coming off.

The SOTP power increase is enormous. The car pulls like crazy from 4K up. Mash the gas in first about 3k and it just spins. Punch it in 2nd at 50 or so and it spins. It's not even close compared to the stock manifold and Y pipe. I'm not exaggerating here either. I didn't feel much of a gain from my Magnaflow Catback, TSP lid, or free mods. I will get it tuned after I get my HP Tuners setup.
As for now, I'm buying a Pacesetter ORY, like I should have done in the first place.

I just installed a set this past weekend that I got from TSP and they went up and in just fine. We did not have to cut or trim anything. The passenger side O2 is a tight fit, but other than that it was great. I got the racing headers so no worries about the air and egr.

Can't wait to get my own set. I too have to admit I didnt feel a whole lot of difference with the catback, lid, and SSRA from stock.

Car only sees 5k miles a year, and you're worried about reliability and such? ****. Go with a 224 AT LEAST. There are people with F13's that think they drive really well, and thats a decent bit bigger than the 224. My car sees 15k a year at least, and its gettin a F13 this spring barring a better cam design popping up in the meantime. Don't get too scared by big cams, tuning can take care of a lot. Drivability issues are quickly becoming less problematic.
