Default Gutting Cats/O2 simms?????

Who out there has gutted the cats and not needed the o2 sims. What mods whith gutting? I have heard some people don't use them, and some have to! Just wondered if there is a corolation between what mods have been done, and the people that have to have o2 sims. Mine is stock, with k&n,and a few free mods. Still running the stock exhaust manafolds. Thanks guys!

I home-ported a spare set of stock manifolds and
gutted / ported the cats (just to eliminate some sharp
edges I thought might account for peoples' complaint
about rasp; I got no rasp). Your choices are O2 sims,
live with the SES light, or program it. I programmed it.

Yes, you will need O2 simms. However, all they do is prevent an SES light. If you dont mind driving with one then don't bother. I drove w/o O2 simms for a couple months before getting the O2's tuned out. I would definitly get them if you don't plan on having the O2 codes tuned out, that way you can still have your SES light if anything else goes wrong.

Were/how much does everyone spend on them? What is the ecm looking for from these o2's? Just an impedence right? Couldn't a guy just put the right value resistor on the signal wire, and accomplish the same thing?

Pewter99 The ECM looks for changes/differences in the O2 readings from the front O2 sensor vs the rear O2 sensor. The change in oxygen content after the the exhaust passes thru the catalytic converter tells the ECu that the converter is working. That's why you need the O2 sims if you gut the cat there will be on change in the redings, the the ECU will set a fault code, which in turn can reduce performance if the computor thinks that something is amiss. IF you state performs a sniff test you most likey will fail emissions. Hope this info helps.
