Default Belt Tensioner

Pretty sure my belt tensioner is making noise. Is it better to replace it with a stock one or aftermarket?

If you're a H/C car, I would recommend the aftermarket Katech unit. It'll prevent your belt from popping off.

If you are planning on doing a cam and/or underdrives I would get a Katech adjustable. Otherwise I would just get a stocker from GM.

I would go with a stock belt tensioner, no worries about overtightening belt and simple on - off install.

The instructions for adjusting the Katech are so simple it is sick. If you use a torque wrench you just pull to the right torque. It is probably one of the easiest mods other than a lid, plus the part is very nice.

In my own opinon i would go with the aftermarket. The people i have seen running a large cam or cam/heads like you need the aftermarket one. My belt tryes its best to come off the tensioner at the track so that is going to be one of my next upgrades. I dont think the factory one is good for cars that see over 6500 rpm's. Just my 2 cents though.

I have the katech and tighting the belt correctly was a problem with me, since I had no torque wrench to tight belt to correct specs, but if you are making alot of horsepower then take flexybronc advice and get a katech, other then that I would have gone with stock tensioner, but the katech does look really nice, I also got thier pulley.

When you and Z28 Venom say that, is that what usually happens? I just posted up on my problem with the belt moving a little up the front of the 2 top pullies. But they said it could be that the new ASP pulley aint on enough. It only creeped up after a hard 1/4 mi. run.
