Default Busted Cat internals..please help!

yesterday i raced an MR2 w/ a turbo.took him no problem.but i went over the middle of the intersection and it was really bumpy(thanks City of San Jose),and i lost some traction and my car hopped really bad.well then it started to make this clunking noise.i thought a weld broke loose from my exhaust, but when i went to muffler shop today, the guy told me that my motor is running hot?and the excessive heat broke down the ceramic material inside the cat...then when i hit the bump it probably busted.should i take it to the dealership to find out, if it is running hot, what it is? does anybody know how much a stock cat is? is it more worth it to do aftermarket hi-flow's?how do i drill out the stuff inside? really long drill bit?any suggestions would be great.

P.S. the muffler guy told me that there is no A/M cats that are OBD2 legal;passed by CARB. i tought that Random Tech's were 50-state legal?

BTW im not running the F2 kit yet, so it cant be that.and i am running a Superchip's programmer.

TR shows the random tech cats to be carb legal.

Have you looked at where you might have hit? not so sure about the motor running hot, you could also take out your cats and look at them if you really wanted to, has it thrown any codes? or just running weird?

I had Random Tech Y-pipe and CATS. Yes, they are Carb 50 legal for the CA guys and others. I split the ceramic in half on the right passenger-side during installation (accidentally banged it with a hammer). When I went to have a new CAT welded in it's place, the dude said, "Hellfire, that sum-bitch is holler as ****!". Dude, there was nothing inside the CAT. The ceramic material had broken down and blown out the exhaust.

My RT's flowed really well. If you replace your CATS with RT CATS, you'll have to have the welder cut a hole in the passenger side CAT and weld in an 02 Sensor bung to screw the sensor in to. It doesn't come with the oxygen sensor bung fitment, but, it's real easy for a welder to do. I spoke with RT and they will fabricate the thing, but, they want a fortune to do it.

Aftermarket cat converters are NOT legal in California Except Dodge pu's Chevy pu's and Jeeps. The only car's are the chrysler 3.5L motor. If the smog tech looks you will fail. The only reason is visual though. If you have someone to "forget" that part emmisions wise it will pass.

there are always stock cats in the classifieds for sale. i bought 2 for $50 shipped and paid $80 for the install. the dealer wanted to charge me $1600 to replace the stock cats. cheapest way to go. good luck on whatever you decide to do.

The dealer should replace the stock cat at no cost, if that is what you want to do.

today i went down to the exhaust shop and he gutted that cat for me,also welded in a cut-out in the i-pipe. random tech cats DO have a CARB#.im not going to worry about it for now since i got my smog last month.dont have to worry for another 2 years.

"There's no need to sacrifice gobs of horsepower to meet emissions requirements. Just install a Random Technology Super High Flow catalytic converter. Random SHF converters meet EPA and California ARB requirements and feature special flow enhancing construction that minimizes mechanical restriction for maximum horsepower.
Random Technology Catalytic Converters can be added to vehicles that were not originally equipped with a catalytic converter, or installed as replacements when required on late model emissions-controlled cars and pickup trucks."

straigth from the RT ad.
