Headers

Headers
I see that most of the people on this site have headers. I was wondering if it was a good mod. I am worried about leaking and other problems associated with headers. What are the pros and cons?

Pro- More HP, More TQ, better Airflow, Increase in MPG (see con), Better Looking, Better Quality, Deeper louder exhaust note
Cons- Harder to work around (less room and make a bit hotter under the hood) Decrease in MPG (LEAD FOOT), ground clearance (only some brands)
thats all i can think of off the top of my head

Headers are a really good mod. I gained about 30rwhp with my Hookers. I could feel the gains everywhere in the rpm range. The only leaks I have are where the header meets the custom y-pipe I had made. That's not a header problem though.

I'd say that headers used in an LS1 application don't seem to suffer from the same nagging problems that traditional headers are noted for such as blowing out gaskets...Having headers on my LS1 has been a completely positive experience versus the PITA that the headers were on my LT1 Z28...

I'm going to chime in. So you think you need headers!
1. You have cats...meow.
2. GM engineers tuned your car to run with your factory exhaust manifolds and your cats...meow.
3. You will need to relocate (move back) the cats. (Can't spell catilatic converters)..meow. This is against the law...in some states...but who cares..really....I don't.
4. If I was to put tuned long tube headers on my car. I would want it to be as close to factory emmisions clean as I could get it.
Anybody ever dyno tuned their car after installing headers and high flow cats?
Will your oxygen sensor burn out faster with headers...this will effect MPG.

i am not going to say anything about that last post, and you know why? because you wasted money on the slp y pipe that did nothing for your car. so your opinions should not be taken into consideration. i am not flaming you, or calling you out, i am just saying that i do not agree with you
