Default Intakes

I bought a '99 Z28 last week and want to start modifing it. I was look at the SLP FlowPac but I did a search before I posted anything and noticed a lot of people don't like it. What's the best flowing intake I can get? I'm going to be installing an exhaust at the same time but since I'm new to LS1's I don't know a lot about the different intakes.
I appreciate the help guys.

Or I can get the Whisper Motorsports lid with K&N filter, and Ram Air for about $250 through Speed INC.

Which one would gain me a higher hp rating?

Sorry I am new to LS1's and I am searching the fourms.

IMO, all lids perform the same. Buy the one you like the looks of best, or the cheapest if that's your goal.

I've had two Whisper Lids, I've been very happy with both. First one I had for about 5.5 years on two different LS1 cars, then I sold that lid with my WS6 and I bought a new one for my '98 Z28.

After reading through a lot of posts I see that, I guess my question now is the CAI, Ram Air whatever is considered the best. I see most people here think the SLP one is too short to do any good and since the SLP FlowPac is $300 and I can get almost everything it has made by Whisper for $250 I guess I should go with the Whisper, right?

changed the title of the thread because its misleading. intakes and lids arent the same thing but are both in the induction category.

my vote is direct flow lid (usually the cheapest), fernco or other homemade bellow, fram paper filter, and FTRA

I've got the SLP lid. It was a nightmare to get it to fit right. I would Definetly go Whisper

Thanks, I'm on Speed INC's website right now. Looks like I'll buy the Whisper lid as well as the Whisper Ram Air. I'll install it with my exhaust so hopefully I'll be able to feel a difference in power.

Ok this is straght from GM High-Tech Performance magazine which compared a few of the air lids. This is all on the dyno one after another.
All these test also had the K&N filter.

Max power Max Torq

#1 Stock Lid 321.3 333.7
#2 G2 325.4 343.6
#3 Motorsports Technologies 326.2 337.2
#4 Quater Mile Performance 330.2 339.3
#5 SLP Performance 331.1 342.8
#6 Texas Speed Performance 331.5 342.7
#7 Whisper Motorsports 330.7 342.8
#8 Granatelli 330.6 345.8

Also note they stated SLP as the best fit for tightness and not being loose like the others. Yes it is a little harder to install but they stated it had the best seal for tightness.

Hope this helps a little I know it do for me when I purcased mine.

Never had a fitment issue with either of my Whisper Lids. They were both extremly tight, just as tight as the two SLP lids I've installed on friends' LS1s.

Whisper now has a rubber seal to the MAF. I beleive they are the only one that has a seal.

i had a SLP and now whisper. my SLP fit terribly, the front had a gap about 1/16-1/8" along the front in some places, it looked good though. the whisper lid seems to seal alot better, but must be a tad taller, b/c it slightly rubs my hood. i would get which ever you can find cheaper.

I just bought a used lid off of someone in my area for $50, I don't even know the brand. I don't think the extra $150 I would spend on a name-brand one would be worth the performance, especially considering I ran a 12.9 with just the lid and a cut-out on street tires....

IMHO, find the cheapest used one (as long as it's still in good condition) and spend the rest of the money on another part.

BTW, I also picked up a pie of 3" rubber pvc connector to go from the airlid to the throttle body.
