You can't compare the Hooker ORY to QTP's ORY. The QTP's use a flowmaster collector which not only refines the sound and eliminates some rasp, but has better scavenging effects versus traditional y's. It is a bit pricey though, and I hear fitment is not very good (Your i-pipe needs to be shortened because of the length of the flowmaster collector)
Jeez the QTP/ Kook's headers versus every other header out there argument will never end. That being said I am getting the SS Hookers and their Y in about a month or two. Because that's what I want, end of story.

I wasn't implying that QTP/Kooks were superior to Hooker because of fit or finish. I was simply stating that the QTP is more expensive because of the DESIGN. The flowmaster merge collector is why QTP is twice the price.
FWIW, I wish the Hooker SS headers were available when I bought mine. There are so many more choices for both catted and ORY's available for the Hooker/Jet Hot design.
Check out Texas-Speed if you wanna save some money on a y-pipe. Theirs are designed to work with Hooker/Jet Hot.

I just thought I'd toss this in here. I would try to reuse the stock gaskets. They are better than any of the paper gaskets that come with headers. Unless the gaskets were ones not included in the kit. The stock metal ones are the way to go
Did you get new bolts? I bought Stage 8 bolts so those puppies aren't coming off
They come with everything needed for the install minus 02 sims.

Go post in the sponsors GP section of this forum. I'm almost 100% positive you can get tbyrne to do a GP no problem. In fact, you could give them a call and organize the gp yourself.
I was just wondering if anyone had bought them yet cus theyv been out awhile now, and for the hooker quality/fitment and almost a 100 less then the next brand of stainless header i figured ya cant go wrong.

As for the Mufflex y-pipe, it fits wonderfully! It has slip fit connectors on both the headers; a 2 piece dirver side connected by slip fit; the driver side connects to the Y with a slip fit; and the passenger connectes to the Y with a 3-bolt, ball-in-socket type flange. And, the 4" outlet is really nice.
It truly is a wonderful piece! It cost something like $249 or $269 from Thunder Racing. They were wonderful to work with - convincing me to go with that instead of the Hooker Y-pipe. Even though I probably don't need the flow that the 4" pipe offers, I may in the future.

Are the SS Hooker's still 16 gauge steel or are they 14 gauge? I mean I'm not downing Hooker's, but I've heard that the mild steel one are 16 gauge which isn't a plus, plus I've heard they have clearance problems, meaning you have to notch the K member, and the flanges aren't 3/8, they are smaller, which will cause them to warp and cause a leak. I think that most of the fitment issues that people have are more because of inconsistencies with their own cars than with the headers. When you look at the k-members of our cars, they are bolted on through a slotted hole. On some cars (like mine), the k-member is skewed to one side. This means that you may or may not have to notch the thing. I'm just basing this on a lot of research I did before installing mine. So many people would install the same exact header, but have different things required. Some people had to remove the steering linkage (I didn't) - others had to grind off some casting flash (I did, but just to slide them in) - still others had to notch the k-member (I didn't) - and some had to unbolt the block and move the engine (I didn't).
My flanges were 3/8", but they are the coated ones. I'm assuming that the SS are the same, just of a different metal and not coated.
And, the welds on my headers were first rate. It looked like a row of nickles going around every pipe and in every seam.
The y-pipe is another case, though. You're right - the Hooker unit does not look well made. It's a non-optimal design. And, the guy who welds the headers does NOT weld the y-pipe. The y-pipe is not welded well (at least, the one I saw). The Mufflex is a first-rate piece - a true work of art.
All in all, I'm very happy with my setup. The headers are beautiful, fit perfectly, and bolted up fine. The y-pipe is fairly adjustable (to get around stuff and tuck up to the car) and has no leaks of any sort.

I can make you a badass sig like mine man /End Yes im buying sims/extensions along with pacesetters coated LTs and ORY. Decided to go a diff route.
My Hooker Y-pipe is in my shop uptown. I'll try to snap a picture of it. Looks good to me. Then again, I opened the box, took it out, said "sweet" and put it back in the box lol

I really like the TSP y-pipe. I can't speak from experience with their y, but there looks to be a lot of adjustability in it compared to my Kooks. I bet I could get my y-pipe to stop banging with that piece.
