Default WOT Issues

At wide open throttle, and even under heavy acceleration the car does some backfiring, and what can best be described as sputtering. Recent mods include, longtubes and duals. Would this be suggestive of it running rich? I plan to try and pull a plug, and see what it looks like. Any suggestions? Also, no SES codes have been thrown.

This happened to me. I was getting heavy backfiring under hard acceleration. I found a burned plug wire to be the cause. Check those out first.

I checked out the plug wires, and none of them appear, or feel burned in any way, none of them are touching the headers, #2 is close, but not touching. I could pull them, and check them with a voltmeter?

Sounds more like a lean issue. the engine is now moving more air so make sure the fuel system is up to par....fuel filter and so forth. If it was that rich to be causing this then plugs would be black and you should see some black smoke out the pipes, also check for black soot on the pipe tips....just my .02

happened to me after headers and duals....everyone said it was plug wires, plugs, tuning, or loss of compression....but i reset the computer and it was fine after that. try doing that, but just remember it will run like *** for a few mins until the comp relearns

It sounds silly, but replace your fuel filter and dump Lucas injector cleaner in the tank. My old LT1 did that sputtering stuff more and more. I was about to replace the opti spark, but I thought I'd try the fuel first. Cleared right up! Good luck!

It sounds like what happened to me after I had my LT's installed. I had the computer retuned since I put in a cam and everything was fine. You may want to just diconnect it and let the computer relearn the set up. Will be cheaper!

if none of those options work, i would check to see if it might be moisture or a crack in the distributor cap. that's what it sounds like to me.
good luck.

What all needs to be done to completely reset the computer?

Turn key on, don't start car
Pull PCM BATT and PCM IGN fuses in the engine compartment
Wait 5-10 min
Turn ignition off
Replace fuses
\
Is this the best way to do it?

When my first set of LT's went on, I had the same backfire issues. Tuning cleared up the problem.

After a couple cycles I let you know how it is going. Also, any other ideas are welcome, and thank for you those already submitted

What's going on with your rear O2 sensors?
Are they still on there? If not, you need to have the rears deleted or use O2 simulators (which don't work very well). Also, with LT's, welcome to the world of replacing front O2's every so often.

I no longer have rear o2 sensors. I had them deleted. Front o2s causing a problem then with the a/f?

In my case, at high rpm's, it would smoke black and backfire on deceleration (raz/fuel lightoff in the exhaust). While on the dyno, it backfired and shot 6"-12" flames out the Borla's. Once I replaced the .035 gapped TR6's with TR 55's gapped at .045, it helped the idle issue a lot and it completely stopped the backfiring on deceleration.

Scan the code thrown and you'll be 100% sure of what's going on now.

I'll have to pay someone to do it for me. I think I'm gonna' have NLP do a leak-down test and scan the codes to identify and fix whatever the issue is. It must be something tuning can fix. I say this because my car is a -99, but, it obly has 37,000 miles on it. Surely it can't be rings. I just wanna' get it resolved before I have NLP install a 100 wet shot.
