I keep reading that the LS6 valley cover is a partial solution to oil vapor issues but I have never seen a pic of the LS6 cover and don't know the difference. Could someone please explain the difference and maybe post some pics?

That mod is something nice you can do. It'll keep you from having low oil pressure and comsuming so much oil. It basically has a return valve at the front of the valley cover that pumps and circulates the oil from just being thrown in from the rear of the intake and just sitting at the front of the intake and burning off.

 

I was just doing some research on this the other day......The LS6 valley cover allows you to move the PCV system from the passenger valve cover to the valley. The LS1 PCV system can be a source of oil consumption, so this could be a good mod if you have that problem. It also lets you get rid of a long, ugly PCV hose that runs along the intake. Well, you guys have lead me to spend more money again . I am ordering the cover today since I already have the intake off the car for paint. I like to idea of cleaning the intake area up by removing another hose. I just got rid of those ugly AIR tubes as well. The aluminum rails will look better since there will be a whole lot less clutter, and the reducing the oil consumption will be nice too.

You need to notch the LS1 block to swap to a LS6 valley cover. Probably not something a novice mechanic should attempt.

 

only the early model blocks....I can confirm that for 01 and 02 blocks it is a direct bolt on and i have heard of late 99 and 00 models not having to be notched

 

I have an 01 and needed to cut the notch out.

 

If you have a LS6 block (which my 02 came with) will that solve the notch cutting issue?

 

LS6 blocks do not need notching

OK well yeah, some 01's and (most?) 02's got the LS6 block as an unannounced bonus. Mine is a plain LS1 block, I checked soon as I got the car.

 

It has nothing to do with LS6 block. I don't have an LS6 block.

 

Its very easy to notch it, I did mine years ago, there are write-ups on here. just make sure to tape up and cover any openings prior and clean it out well afterwards.

 

My 01 ls1 block had to be notched, it's not that hard to do honestly. just be sure to make sure everything is covered up good. I believe the whole process only took an hour or so but block was apart, heads and intake were already off.

 

I didn't feel like doing this so I just bought a Might Mouse Catch can and it's achieving the same thing for me.
