ported MAF's? yah or nay?

ported MAF's? yah or nay? k, so i thinking ill be in need of a larger MAF for my Twin turbo Lt1 impala SS, the stock maf is a 3" unit where as the f-body is a 3.5", now do i REALLY need an f-body maf or can i get the stock MAF ported for maximum flow or even get aftermarket 3.5" ends to fit my MAF? are all maf's essentially the same center section with different sized ends depending on f-body or b-body?
porting is good as long as you compensate the calibration for the increased airflow. if you don't, it gets dangerous, as it's gonna be underreporting the amount of air coming in, not delievering enough fuel, and effectively causing a lean condition.
Stock F-body MAF is 75mm (3") and it reads 511g/sec
at 12KHz. Trucks and 'vettes have 85mm (3.5") that
only indicate about 460g/sec @ 12kHz. The smaller MAF
actually has more "readable airflow" as-is.
You need to know what your FMU can handle for MAF
frequency maximum, and what you expect to be pushing
for airflow (g/sec). This may or may not be consistent
with stock MAFs. But calibrating a hacked-on one is not
going to be a quickie.
