Default slip fit vs. weld on flanges. Benefits?

I"m looking at picking up a set of stainless headers and after looking at the Kooks, I've seen pics of a slip-on set up and the weld on flange setup. Any benefit of one over the other? Not really concerned about 'clean looks', just want what is a more solid connection. I'll probably have a shop fab up a catted-y or duals (if i decide to go that route.)

thanx, oh great header gurus!!

ya, go with the kooks slip fit, i have never had a leak with the band clamps. All the headers that i have had with the flange have leaked.

Slip fit works nicely.

thanks for the input.

also, from what i've read, stainless headers throw off less external heat (or so they claim), so is it of any benefit to have them coated, say jet hot, or something? i'm not necessarily looking for the bling look, but i don't want to roast my feet either.

Id say flange it, screw the band clamps, and sliding on and off for work. A pair of stainless 3 bolt flanges will work nicely.

Definately go with the flanges. They are much easier to disconnect and seal very well. When I got my Kook's from TTP, I got them to weld on the flanges straight from Kook's. Their flange is one of the nicest I've seen--3/8" laser cut stainless plate, positioned correctly, welded, and ground flat. It cost $50 to have them added, which I think is a very fair price for what I got.
