Default Is it just me....? (Borla Sound)

...or does a Borla catback sound like complete **** with longtubes? I've heard quite a few now, and I think they sound horrible with a full exhaust system. They sound badass alone, I just personally hate them otherwise. Anyone else notice this?

Yes, it does unless you use the solid plate that sends it all through the muffler or USE CATS. Even then it might not sound good, don't know, havn't heard it that way. (no cats, though muffler, that is) It sounds an awfull lot like the loudmouth. Think about it, with longtubes and no cats and any openeings in the plate you have completely unmuffled exhaust going through a Y-pipe.

The open plate has one of the most raspy sounds out there. At idle with a nice cam, it sounds sick.

I was so close to pulling mine and going with true duals...until I got the cam. Now it sounds good again. The system has been around unchanged for almost seven years now, it was out before even two brands of LTs were around.

Have you heard a cammed LS1 with duals?

Not only is it a great quality of sound that is nice and deep yet screams at WOT and is loud, but it just has a presence to it that the y-pipe to cat-back completely lacks. You can feel the idle in your chest just as easily as you can hear it. 100X better IMO.

Borla sounds best as a catback, IMO. Onec you've got LT's on there unless the plate is pretty much closed it sounds way too raspy. but JMO.

There are two of them parked out in front of my house... buddies cars, I just cant take the interior noise...I dont like the interior resonance even with the cutouts pointed to the ground. Thats just me.

Wouldn't pointing the cutout at the ground make it resonate more because the sound would bounce back up off the ground into the undercarriage of the car? I always thought the sound pointing out the side was the best way to do it. Just a thought, I really don't know...

Definitely, I was comparing a single cutout interior noise (which is less than the duals) to actual duals, they sound like monsters from outside... you just have to get used to it I guess.

Mine sounded like crap when I put LTs and an ORY and I wasn't about to cap it, so I just put a Borla XR-1 bullet in the I-pipe and it sounds great again.

Uh... I've got LTs and Borla and in my biased opinion it sounds wicked. I keep it all through the muffler though, when wide open it doesn't sound so hot, too loud and rasy. Benefit of running through the muffler is I can still hear the cam lope at idle... with LTs, no cats, no mufflers, you just hear exhaust.

We're talking about Borla with longtube headers and ORY.

Well, actually using the muffler with LTs sounds sweet. WOT with no muffler (i.e. Borla with no plate) doesn't sound all that great on any LS1 IMO - unless only volume gets you off.

To that end, I've never understood why people get the Borla and run it straight through - its just an expensive cutout.

I have the Z06 cam, FLP Dynatech SuperMAXX LT's and catted Ypipe along with the Borla catback. I have the Borla set at 1/4 open. I am gonna close that side up for the raspy exhausy. Once I get the car tuned, and the right side pipe is closed, if it still sounds raspy I am getting rid of it. Right now it sounds great when ripping through 1st and 2nd with the tires spinning but all around driving can sound annoying sometimes. We'll see what happens. Once the plate is in and the car is tuned, I will try and post results. Also, the car will be dynoed at the time of tuning. I can't wait!!!

Hope this helps
Andy
