Just got a whole mess of caps. Now it seems to be running rich but no backfire that I've noticed yet. Any idea what it could be?

Just get rid of the EGR and AIR to eliminate those pesky check valves.

can you circle what pieces your talking about?

Hard to see but the 1 on the left is the diverter and the one on the right is the switch that you use a flat head to push down on the tab and remove from the intake.

Great thread! Was looking for a solution to the backfire issue in my C5 Corvette. Only wish some of the pics in this thread still existed. The driver's side air check valve is fairly obvious to spot. If there's another air check valve there, I'm not sure where it is. (I hope it's not the thing at the back of the engine compartment between the engine and the firewall!)

Guys,

My name is Rick (Last_Z) and I started this thread quite a while ago. I got rid of my car back in October 06. I made the mistake of accidentlly deleting the pictures for this project. I do apologize as I didn't know how many people are still interested in removing their AIR systems.

I ask that those who have done this mod, post their pictures and help others out.

Again, I apologize for leaving you all hanging!

Rick

A couple of questions:

The '02 doesn't have EGR?

Would the AIR system have anything to do with running too rich in lower RPM's/start-up?

It really has very little to do with drivability, right?

Thanks!

My EGR was already removed so I decided to stop being lazy and take off the AIR tonight. I followed the two guides on here and still have one question. The plug that goes into the back of the switch on the intake manifold is it alright that it is just dangling there? I have had the EGR/AIR codes deleted through a dyno tune and I capped the vaccum line with a screw. I'm hoping tomorow my wideband will start reading correctly and no more backfires. I just want to make sure it is ok for that plug to just sit there. Oh and the bolt was murder on the back of the head!!!!!!! 15 MM open end racheting wrench made the job alot easier, go GM for bolt placement!!

I need to put mine back in (selling it) so does the vacum line to the engine (the other goes to the airbox) go on the TOP or the BOTTOM outlet from the pump? I think I have them backwards.

here is what it looks like off my 2000 trans am. Of course you wont have the egr stuff and i think your air stuff is alittle different but this might help.
Its really not that hard to get all the pump and all the piping out
