Default Magnaflow Catback versus Mufflex 3.5? Owners of both inside...

Allright, the search button isn't working and I'm not sure there's even be a direct comparison if it was working. here's the dilly....I have the 3.5" Mufflex single with a Dynomax UltraFlow Muffler instead of the Spintech. It's a straight through muffler with the single turndown tip. My car picked up in et and mph over the magnaflow setup I had before but it was the stock catback with just the magnaflow muffler welded in. Lately I've been seeing the Magnaflow catback on some other camaros around and really like the polished "dual tails" on them. My question is, How much do you think I'd be giving up flow wise going from the 3.5" Mufflex to the real deal Magnaflow catback?? Also bear in mind I'm about to install all the parts in my sig along with a set of TEA 1.5 5.3 heads....Thanks!

Well, since you have a straight through muffler right now, going to the magnaflow you're goin to pick up some low end torque due to the back pressure. Besides that you aren't going to lose much at all (maybe 2-3hp at most) because the magnaflow catback flows very well. Another plus for the magnaflow is that polished look which gets the looks. Hope this helped you out a bit.

I thought the magnaflow may flow as well as a 3.5" single but wasn't sure. I only have a 2.5" Y pipe so I figured I had enough backpressure, but with the heads, F13 and LS6 coming soon I thought perhaps I was best served leaving the 3.5" single in place for now?

I loved the SLP 2OTL on my car! It only lost 2rwhp to open cutouts, and sounded incredible. It's a distinct look, not for everyone, but if you don't mind 2 tips on one side, go for it!

The Magnaflows will probabally look and sound better then a larger 3.5 inch I-pipe with a high flow muffler. But the fact that you will have aftermarket heads & cam, you would probably loose top end performance.

I was thinking about going with to the Mufflex 3.5 or 4 I-pipe with the dual outlet Spintech Muffler.

Good luck,

Al

Hey Jimmy I seen a few cars at MIR saturday with the Magnaflow and those tips look damn good, I would leave the mufflex on the car until the heads/cam and dyno it, then if you want to, change it to the magnaflow and dyno again and see what the difference is. BTW, you can definitely hear the lope of a cam through the Magnaflow, sounds bad ***!
