Default stainless vs. coated

i really love the kooks headers but i dont like the fact that they are not coated. the pacesetters are a great buy but they are not stainless.....i dont have extremely deep pockets but dont want to be disappointed in my purchase. i think coated headers look much better plus help keep temps down. on the other hand stainless doesnt rust. this is going to most likely be a bolt on only 99 ss m6 with a z06 cam a slight possiblity. this is my daily driver in florida so it gets wet. it will also have cats as to keep dbs to a minumum, but no other emission related junk will be retained. i am also very finiky about the way my car looks and it gets cleaned ritually. so with that being said 2 questions arise.
1: am i going to see any big gains with kooks over pacesetters?
2: which do u think id be happier with?

p.s.--are the kooks stepped 1-7/8 too big for my combo?

You may get flamed a bit because there are quite a few of these threads right now.

If you really like the stainless Kooks, just buy them and have them coated also. Kooks are definitely higher quality than Pacesetters and provide a bit more HP.

would just plain stainless headers get too hot w/o a coating?

Not necessarily. I'm sure they distribute the heat well. I think some people just don't like the bluing of stainless headers. I think it looks pretty cool.

ya i was waiting for a flame on it but ive read all of those and they dont seem to be asking the same questions i am--although undoubtably similar. i wanted coated because it looks good--i think stainless looks like crap after a while--but it is more durable. im very nit picky. i would get the kooks coated but if i drop that much intially im not going to have the money to do that.

Over my short lifetime I've learned that you get what you pay for and it's better to do it right the first time. I plan on having my TA until I die so I don't want to be replacing my headers again in 15 years when the bolts are nice and froze up. I'd hate to go the cheap route and regret it later.

I'm a design exhaust and emissions components for diesel engines/trucks and we use nothing but 304L stainless steel for everything, including the welding wire (actually 309).

I am using coated headers right now, and might be switching to SS if I don't go turbo. The are rusting and the coating is starting to flake off. Not only that its pretty dry here in the southwest.

After seeing components come back that operate in harsh environments i.e. salt water, high humidty, high temps, and after scraping off all the crud that gets caked on and seeing a solid non corroded surface stainless is really the only way to go IMHO.

I see this on a daily basis.

If you can swing the cost, do it! The surface gets discolored from the heat but can be brought back to a new shiney finish with some elbow grease and time.
