Default sound difference from 98-99LS1 to 00-2 LS1

I know there are different cam sizes between the years...

I believe the 02&01 is a vortech truck cam and utilizes the LS6 intake..

my question is with these 2 changes can you tell at all that these engines have different cams in it?

say there both running full exhaust (true duals) could one tell?

I cant confirm it but I highly doubt you will hear the difference other than the sound differences due to the tune of the engine, be it stock tune or otherwise. Every car is gonna be a little different.

I did. I now have QTP Lt's and GMMG and my buddy has an 00 Z28 and had Kooks LT's and GMMG. The sound is noticeably diff. Mine actually tends to lope like it has a larger cam in there at idle then his had. Also his rasped VERY VERY little at the top of the band where mine does not. I could hear the difference pretty distinctly. Everyone who has heard both said mine sounds better then his did, but now he has Head/Cam so now i haveta catch up haha. It is def. Noticeable

Stock 98-00 cam

Duration@.050 198.86 intake 209.25 exhaust
Lift .498 intake .497 exhausts
LSA 119.45

Stock 01-02 cam

Duration@.050 196.37 intake 208.72 exhaust
Lift .464 intake .479 exhausts
LSA 115.92

the 98-00 has -35.1° Valve overlap and the 01-02 has -30° valve overlap (which helps determine the lope at idle) the 119 LSA raises the powerband level to higher RPMs this is where the 115 LSA benefits down low. The difference is noticeable like i said. It is quite interesting.

I'm sure the difference would be small....but which cam would make more power given equal mods?

00-02 do have better heads, 01-02 have better intake

The larger cam doesnt necesarily make better power, yes it is bigger and may produce good power but both cams have advantages over eachother. 98-00 would be good for a top end run where as 01-02 will deff be the ones to go from a dig because of the Powerband each cam produces. Besides there is a select few 98's who have C5 cams in them because of cam shortage, they are smaller then the 98-00 cams but have a higher ramp rate. All in all the motors make remotely similar numbers with very similar power curves. It doesn't vary all that much. It's like I was once told "Cam's are like *****, some like them big and some like them small"
