Default Are exhaust studs prone to breaking?

I have an ORY-pipe made to fit the factory manifolds. I am going to put it on for the time being but I'm worried about snapping of the studs that attach the manifolds to the Y-pipe. They look pretty corroded. I'm thinking of ordering new studs from gmpartsdirect but I don't want to waste the money if it's not necessary. However, I will be doing this on the weekend. So I need to get them beforehand if I'm going to get them. So you can see my dilemma.

So have you guys had a problem with these studs snapping off? Can I just scrape them down with a wire brush and WD40 the hell outta them? Or should I order the studs?

On a side note, are there gaskets between the y-pipe and manifolds?

I broke one of my studs when I took mine apart. You can just drill it out and use a bolt if you dont want to buy new studs. No gaskets between cats and y, Yes wd40 the heel out of them nd let is soak for alittle bit.

I broke two of the studs on one manifold and none on the other. I took off the manifold, drilled out the broken bolts, then welded on some new ones.

Drill them out? Are they not just pressed in? (ie, can't I just knock it out, put a new one in and cinch it down upon reassembly without removing the manifold?)

This may be the one time in the history of passenger cars that headers could be deemed as a necessary modification.

Eric, why didnt you just buy a set of headers and do it all at the same time and save urself the trouble of doing this twice.. Goodluck tho! And I recommend a can of PB BLASTER..

Because:
1) Headers are expensive; the Y-pipe was free.

2) I don't know if I'm ever going to put headers on this car.

3) For right now, I have to watch my exhaust noise level due to my neighborhood. Trust me, this will change soon.

I got all mine off no problem. I used product called Cold Shock from Miller Welding. PB BLaster is also a good choice. Just soak down the studs 24 hours in advance.

Yep, PB Blaster and let it soak... I swear, you let that stuff soak long enough, ANYTHING will come off.
